Minecraft is a blast, whether you’re playing it in survival mode or pottering around in creative mode, crafting vast blocky buildings. But what if you’re a PlayStation 5 owner looking for games like Minecraft to scratch that base-building, monster-slaying itch? Where do you go?

Here, that’s where. We’ve pored over the PS5’s catalogue to bring you the best PlayStation 5 games like Minecraft, both PS4 and PS5 native. Just be warned, get hooked on any of these and you can wave your free time goodbye.

1. Ark: Survival Ascended

Minecraft may have exploding green beasties, but does it let you ride a dinosaur? No, and that’s where Ark comes in. Ark: Survival Ascended is the remastered PS5 version of this survival game, and it features everything from monster wrangling to base building.

You can expect Ark’s dinos to be even more aggressive than Minecraft’s enemies, especially when it comes to your bases. Skeleton archers have nothing on Ark: Survival Ascended T-Rexes.

2. My Time at Sandrock

My Time at Sandrock is the desert-based follow-up to My Time at Portia and it offers more resource gathering and house-building than you can shake a Creeper at. If you enjoy those elements of Minecraft, this is one of the best games like it on PS5 that you can play.

But its villagers have far more character than Minecraft’s anonymous characters. You’re striving to build a community that will make you and them proud, and keep them safe. There’s job satisfaction for you.

3. Lego Fortnite

Lego Fortnite has an awful lot in common with Minecraft and, aside from the fact that you can’t dig downwards, it could become a serious competitor to Mojang’s game.

Throw in the ready-made charm of Lego, add some multiplayer antics, and you’ve got a game that stands to be a real time-sink. It doesn’t quite match Minecraft’s complexity but it’s still a joy to play and there’s room for Epic to build (sorry) on this.

4. No Man’s Sky

No Man's Sky Humble Sale

No Man’s Sky started off life as a space exploration sim which, as many, many people pointed out, didn’t live up to its pre-launch promises. But five years and many patches later, it offers all the resource-harvesting, monster-avoiding, base-building shenanigans you could want.

True, some of the locals object to you plundering their resources but you can craft some massively impressive bases, from houses to mini-airports and beyond. And if you get bored, you can always soar off and start again on another planet.

5. Terraria

Terraria best survival games on Xbox Series X/S

Terraria has been compared to a 2D Minecraft and, well, that’s actually pretty accurate. You’ll be mining resources, constructing and protecting your safehouse and generally trying not to die.

Like Minecraft, you can tweak the world. Is bigger better? It gives you more to do but also more hazards to encounter when you leave your homestead. If you’re up to the challenge, Terraria is one of the best games like Minecraft you can play on PS5.

Weekend Editor // Chris has been gaming since the days of the Acorn Electron, which was allegedly purchased to 'help him with his homework'. You can probably guess how well that went. He’ll tackle most genres – football titles aside – though he has a taste for games that that are post-apocalyptic, horror-oriented or thought provoking in nature.
