The King of Fighters XV Gets New Advance Strike Mechanic

King of Fighters XV Advance Strike

Fighting game fans are spoilt for choice right now, what with today’s release of Tekken 8, and Street Fighter 6 and Mortal Kombat 1 launching last year. There are older fighting games still worth jumping into as well, such as The King of Fighters XV, which is set to receive a large update next week that will add an entirely new Advance Strike mechanic.

Landing on 30th January, the latest update for The King of Fighters XV aims to reinvigorate the gameplay by allowing for more aggressive play. Costing half a power bar to perform, the Advance Strike will allow players to protect themselves from throws and attacks and, if performed correctly, will leave their opponents falling to the ground, opening them up for further attacks.

Needless to say, it’s a pretty big addition to the game, making the combat more strategic and varied. A video showcasing the new mechanic can be found below.

Released back in 2022, The King of Fighters XV is the latest entry in the long-running fighting games series, and focuses on 3-on-3 team based battles. In our review we were impressed with its large roster of fighters and solid mechanics, although we were disappointed by its lack of single-player mode.

Still, if you love fighting against others online, it’s well worth jumping into. Cross-play has been added since launch, too, making its online offerings even better.
