The Best Dating Sim Games on PS5

Ten Dates review

Let’s face it: first dates suck. You’re nervous, they’re nervous, you’re never sure how to act or where you should go, and you’re never quite sure what the other person is going to think of you. And so, instead of going out into the big, wide world for a date, why not stay at home and have one on the PS5 instead? We’ve rounded up the best dating sim games on PS5, giving you the thrill of dating without any of the horrible parts.

Dating sims on PS5 come in various shapes and sizes. Some allow you a more leading role in choosing your dates and seeing where they go. Others are more of a passive experience, as you watch things unfold in a visual novel-type experience. We’ve included a mixture of different types of games here, so no matter what type of dating sim you want to play, we’ve got you covered.

More cool stuff on PS5

1. Ten Dates

Honestly, we love Ten Dates. Undoubtedly one of the best dating simulator games on PS5, it’s actually an FMV. In other words, it’s like watching a film where you can control the plot. Following either Misha or Ryan, you’ll go on a speed dating experience. Then, after choosing your favourites, meet them for a number of first dates.

How the dates turn out will depend on how conversations go, which you can control with various prompts and choices. You can choose to completely derail things if you want, or try to be the best date ever: entirely your choice. Either way, it’s a lot of fun.

2. Kaichu: The Kaiju Dating Sim

Kaiju deserve love too. In this adorable dating sim on PS5, you’ll take on the role of Gigachu, a Godzilla-like creature who’s on the lookout for love. Over the course of the game you’ll meet six other kaiju, answering compatibility questions about them in order to find your perfect match.

With different storylines and 24 famous landmarks to visit, no two games of Kaichu: The Kaiju Dating Sim are ever the same. We love that it has non-linear gameplay, too, so you can choose who to date and where to go right from the start of the game: you’re not simply shoehorned in a particular direction. Coupled with its wonderful 2D cartoon art style, there’s a lot to like here.

3. Boyfriend Dungeon

Why date a human when you can date a weapon? No, seriously: that’s what you do in Boyfriend Dungeon. This isn’t your typical dating simulator, but it’s still one of the best dating sims on PS5, perhaps because it’s so unique. This is first and foremost a roguelike hack and slash game, giving you random dungeons to work through, killing enemies with the likes of daggers or even a lasersaber.

They aren’t your regular weapons, however: they can transform into people. Hot people you want to date. And so, when you’re not slashing your way through enemies, you’ll be romancing your weapons, taking them on dates and getting to know them. Date whoever you want, and how many of ’em you want: it’s entirely up to you.

4. Raptor Boyfriend: A High School Romance

We’ve had weapons and kaiju — how about raptors? Nobody said the best dating sim games on PS5 had to be sensible, and we can’t think of anything more outlandish than dating a raptor. Especially when you’re a human. But hey, in the world of video games, just about anything goes. In the weird and wonderful world of Raptor Boyfriend, you take on the role of a teenage girl who moves to a community of cryptids. Along with raptors, then, you’ll find a fairy and even a sasquatch – and all of ’em can be dated.

You’ll play through your senior year of high school, and between classes get to know your choice of dates. Do you fancy the raptor, Robert, a bit of a jock with a lot of charm? Or maybe Woo Day Lilly, a complicated fairy, is more your style? There’s also Bigfoot Taylor, who may be hairy but we’re sure he’s got a heart of gold.

There’s a lot more to Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! than meets the eye. This is far more than just a dating sim, but it still deserves a place on our list of best dating sims on PS5, just because it’s so subversive. Saying much more than that will ruin the experience for you — you’re best off going into this knowing as little as possible. But suffice to say, you’re going to have a great time.

Doki Doki Literature Club is primarily a visual novel and it’s set around the titular Literature Club. You join in search of a romantic interest, and by writing poems and making numerous choices you hope to woo the right person. There are multiple endings here, so you’ll want to play through more than once if you want to see everything the game has to offer. And trust us, you absolutely will.
