The Rogue Prince of Persia announced, enters early access this May

What do buses and Prince of Persia games have in common? You spend ages waiting for one, and then two arrive in quick succession. That’s right: hot on the heels of the brilliant Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown which launched in January, another Prince of Persia game is on its way this May. Though granted, The Rogue Prince of Persia will initially only be available on PC via early access.

Developed by Evil Empire, which previously worked on Dead Cells, The Rogue Prince of Persia is, perhaps unsurprisingly, a 2D roguelite. Set in a fictional version of Ctesiphon, the capital of the Persian Empire, players will take control of the Prince and fight to save the city from destruction at the hands of the Hun’s army of possessed soldiers. It’s an unprecedented task, but the Prince is up to it thanks to a mystical bola that he’s been gifted, which allows him to resurrect each time he dies.

As you’d expect, The Rogue Prince of Persia will have multiple biomes for the Prince to explore, and along the way players will master new weapons, find new trinkets to equip and more, increasing the Prince’s chances of success.

The Prince’s acrobatic abilities haven’t been forgotten about, either. Players will be able to wall run and more, ensuring that The Rogue Prince of Persia actually feels like a Prince of Persia game. Throw in a soundtrack composed by Persian-American electronic music producer and performance artist ASADI, and it’s safe to say we’re pretty excited about jumping into this new and unexpected entry in the long-running series.

The Rogue Prince of Persia will hit Steam via early access on 14th May, and will be tweaked and expanded upon over time. Will it ever make it to consoles? We imagine so, but only once the game is effectively completed. At its early access launch, its story will apparently have a hard stop.
