Watch Lewis Hamilton fail the Driver tutorial mission

Lewis Hamilton Driver

He may be a world class Formula One driver, but hand Lewis Hamilton a PlayStation One controller and a copy of Driver and you’ll realise he isn’t great at everything.

In a video uploaded to the official Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team YouTube channel, Lewis Hamilton plays a variety of games from his childhood, including F1 2000, Gran Turismo and indeed, Driver. It also gives us an insight into Lewis Hamilton’s history with video games. It turns out he’s more of a Call of Duty and Fortnite gamer now, but back in the day he loved Mario, Crash Bandicoot, and of course a variety of racing games, including Colin McRae Rally.

With his first console being a Nintendo Entertainment System, it turns out he returned the PlayStation One he received as a Christmas gift from his parents after deciding that he wanted a new helmet instead. His dad had to then paint the helmet because they couldn’t afford to have it done so professionally. He must have got one eventually, though, as he fondly remembers his time with games like Gran Turismo.

Lewis appears to do reasonably well with the likes of Gran Turismo and F1 2000 in the video, considering he’s probably not used a PlayStation One in years. When it comes to Driver, however, he struggles. It has to be said that Driver’s introductory mission is somewhat challenging though.

Give the video a watch below to get an insight into Lewis’ history with gaming. And see if, like us, watching him play Driver makes you wish for a new entry in the series. We rather enjoyed Driver: San Francisco but that was over ten years ago now. Get on it, Ubisoft.
