Is Toys for Bob teasing a new Spyro the Dragon game?

Having escaped the clutches of Activision and reportedly struck a deal with Microsoft to fund its next game, developer Toys for Bob has updated its website with somewhat of a tease. And while nothing has been officially announced yet, Spyro the Dragon fans might want to get a little excited.

Visit the Toys for Bob website right now and you’ll find just one single image. What’s important, however, is that the image is a purple tiki mask. At first, it led us to believe that the developer could be working on a new Crash Bandicoot game – the series is synonymous with tiki masks, after all. Twitter/X user and games insider Shinobi602 has pointed out that a similar tiki mask has been used as part of Toys for Bob’s logo before, however.

We accessed Toys for Bob’s website via the Wayback Machine and looked at the company’s last published website in a capture taken in February 2024. And indeed: the very same tiki mask is used in the website’s footer — so it’s clearly an icon that the company uses for branding. It is, however, in a different colour.

So, perhaps it’s the colour of the mask that’s important here instead. The purple hue reminds us of Spyro the Dragon, another series that Toys for Bob has worked on in the past. Also, in the studio’s announcement that it was going indie, it signed off with “keep your horns and eyes out for more news.” Spyro the Dragon has horns.

So, while Toys for Bob is likely working on either a Crash Bandicoot or Spyro the Dragon game, our money is on the latter. It makes sense, too. While Crash Bandicoot was lucky enough to star in a brand new game in 2020, Spyro’s last outing was the Reignited Trilogy, a collection of remakes. It’s about time he had a new game of his own.

Still, it’s all a pipedream until something is officially announced. We’ll keep you updated as we know more – perhaps something will be unveiled at Summer Games fest, or perhaps even the June Xbox Games Showcase?
