The Glass Staircase

PS2-inspired horror The Glass Staircase hits consoles this month

This month’s a fun one for classic horror game fans. After the release of the PS1-inspired Crow Country which has won over critics and consumers alike, there’s now a PS2-inspired horror game on the way. Called “Puppet Combo’s most ambitious effort to date” by Bloody Disgusting, The Glass Staircase promises to be a surreal but brief adventure, with a running time of less than two hours.

In The Glass Staircase, players will take control of a number of young women trapped in a dilapidated orphanage. Given tasks to complete each day, you’ll have to carry them out diligently. But it soon becomes clear that something isn’t quite right.

Inspired by beloved PS2 horror titles like the brilliant Silent Hill 2, as well as classic ’80s Italian Giallo horror movies such as Suspiria, The Glass Staircase is something a little different from Puppet Combo. The grotesque slasher formula has been thrown out of the window in favour of a more atmospheric experience. That doesn’t mean there aren’t going to be any violent or shocking scenes, however. You only have to watch the teaser trailer below to see that it features a combat system at least.

The Glass Staircase launches 24th May on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Switch, so keep it on your radar if you’re a horror fan seeking out something new to play.
