Xsolla’s quarterly report on the future of gaming reveals insights into upcoming trends

Video game commerce company Xsolla has just released the spring edition of “The Xsolla Report: The State of Play”. A quarterly publication from the company, The State of Play provides looks into current trends in video gaming and development, and also offers insights into emerging patterns across the industry.

This latest edition of The State of Play focuses on the evolution of mobile gaming — an area that took up a 49% share of the global gaming market in 2023. The report looks at advancing practices in global compliance and regulation, as well as going into detail about Europe’s Digital Markets Act and how it affects player engagement strategies.

Further, Xsolla’s report touches on potential future models of distribution and monetisation, as well as discussing the impact of cross-platform play upon the industry.

Also of note in this quarterly release is the importance of the relationship between academia and the gaming industry. It looks at the current relationship between video games and academic institutions, and highlights programs that can and do have an impact on students and the industry.
