It’s been five years since the release of the excellent Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, Koji Igarashi’s spiritual successor to Castlevania. Just where does the time go? In order to celebrate the occasion, Shutaro Iida and Koji Igarashi have got together to put together a special video message for fans, reflecting on the game’s successful Kickstarter and more.

One aspect of the video that stands out to us is Koji Igarashi acknowledging that they perhaps went too far with the stretch goals. Indeed, the last pieces of content included as part of the stretch goals — Chaos Mode and Versus Mode — arrived in the game just last month. In addition to that, the final piece of paid content for the game, a second retro style classic game called Dominique’s Curse, arrived earlier this month.

So, what’s next? Well, Koji Igarashi playfully teases that the team is hard at work on its next game towards the end of the video. Chances are it’s a sequel to Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night — publisher 505 Games insinuated one was in the works in 2021 at least — but nothing has been officially announced as yet.

In any case, it seems the future is bright for the series, which now already includes a multitude of titles if you include the Curse of the Moon retro-styled titles. Check out the special anniversary message below.
