DOOM: The Dark Ages goes back to the origins of the Slayer on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC next year

The DOOM Slayer is coming back, and in the next game we’ll discover the origins of his rage. That’s right, the next DOOM game is going to be a prequel, taking players back to a medieval setting. The Slayer himself looks quite familiar, though, albeit now sporting some painful-looking spikes and a fur cape.

The trailer shown off for DOOM: The Dark Ages at the Xbox Games Showcase, which you can watch below, is action packed, with the DOOM Slayer taking on many enemies which a wide assortment of weapons, some old, some new.

It appears the Slayer will now have a shield, for example, which can be used to not only block some attacks but also thrown to inflict damage. More exciting is the fact that it appears we’ll be able to climb into a mech suit to fight against gargantuan foes, and even ride what appears to be a dragon.

Developed by id Software, while DOOM: The Dark Ages was revealed and shown off at the Xbox Games Showcase, it will be coming to PS5 as well as Xbox Series X/S consoles and PC when it launches next year. Of course, Game Pass subscribers on both Xbox and PC will be able to play it day one as part of their subscriptions, while PS5 gamers will have to buy it outright.

In any case, it’s safe to say we’re very much looking forward to ripping and tearing in a new setting. And we’re also glad that DOOM: The Dark Ages will be playable across Xbox and PlayStation consoles given that previous games have been multiformat. We look forward to finding out more information about the game in the run up to its launch.
