Life is Strange: Double Exposure screen

Max Caulfield returns in a new Life is Strange game, coming this October

Ready for a new Life is Strange game? We certainly are — and we don’t have long to wait now, either. Revealed during today’s Xbox Games Showcase, Life is Strange: Double Exposure is coming on 29th October 2024. And while it’s an all-new entry in the long-running series, it brings back a very familiar face: the first Life is Strange’s protagonist, Max Caulfield.

Set a number of years after the events of Life is Strange, Max is now a photography student at Caldeon University. The trailer informs us it’s been some time since she’s had to use her powers — if you remember, she could pause and rewind time — but all that is about to change.

Discovering the dead body of one of her friends, Max is thrown into a murder mystery spanning space and time. You see, it seems Max has a new power now: she can step between two different timelines, running parallel to each other. In one, her friend has been killed. In the other, she’s alive and well. By exploring both timelines, hopefully she can find out what happened — and maybe save her.

We’re sold on the premise, and we’re excited to catch up with Max Caulfield to find out where life has taken her. We’re not sure if we’ll see other familiar faces — it seems Max has left her hometown behind her — but we wouldn’t be surprised to find more than a few nods to the original game.

Life is Strange: Double Exposure is coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on 29th October 2024, and it’s also set to come to Switch at a later date. Pre-orders are open now, and if you opt for the Ultimate edition, you’ll be able to play the first two chapters of the game on 15th October, two weeks before the full game releases.
