Nikoderiko should delight fans of Crash Bandicoot and Donkey Kong

If you’re a fan of platforming games with colourful visuals and cute characters, a title is on its way later this year that you really might want to keep on your radar. Developed by Cyprus-based studio VEA Games, its name is Nikoderiko, and it’s one of the first games to be published by MY.GAMES’ new premium publishing label, Knights Peak Interactive. It will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch and PC.

In Nikoderiko, players will take control of a mongoose called Niko who, accompanied by his friend Luna, discovers an ancient relic on a magical island. Needless to say, when it’s stolen by the villainous Grimbald of the Cobring Gems Company, the pair spring into action to recover it – who knows what trouble it could cause in the wrong hands, after all.

While Nikoderiko is fully rendered in 3D, it combines both 2D and 3D platforming, offering gameplay familiar to that of games such as Donkey Kong Country and Crash Bandicoot. Making it somewhat unique, however, is the fact that you’ll be able to make use of mounts, providing unique abilities in and outside of combat. Suitable for all ages, it even supports local co-op, allowing friends and family to share its fun platforming antics.

When it comes to the soundtrack of Nikoderiko, many will be ecstatic to hear that legendary British composer David Wise has been brought on board, whose work has graced classics such as the Donkey Kong Country series, Yooka Laylee, and a whole lot more. It’s safe to say we’re pretty excited about this one, then, as it appears very promising indeed.
