Screenbound has you playing two games at once, and it looks rad

Revealed at tonight’s Day of the Devs, Screenbound looks like one of the most original games we’ve seen in a while. It’s simultaneously a retro platformer and a first-person game, which sounds somewhat impossible – but developer Crescent Moon Games has pulled it off.

You see, in Screenbound, you’re holding a Game Boy-like game console in front of you, all the while moving around a three-dimensional world. Both the world in your handheld game and the world you’re physically in match up, and so you’ll need to pay attention to both to get the full picture.

After all, you’ve got a game console blocking most of your view. And since the game you’re playing on it is two-dimensional, it only gives you part of the picture.

It sounds trippy, but it looks like great fun. You’ll need to jump to squash enemies you can only see on your 2D screen, but you’ll need to rotate around your fully 3D environment in order to find hidden pathways not visible in two dimensions. It’s going to give your brain a workout, that’s for sure.

There’s no release date for Screenbound just yet, but we’ll certainly be keeping our eye on this little gem. It’s set to land on Steam, and you can add it to your wishlist right now.
