State of Decay 3, a woman in a hat at night, looking worried.

Xbox Games Showcase will have a State of Decay 3 trailer, according to leaks

After four years of near radio silence, tonight’s Xbox Games Showcase will finally give us a fresh look at State of Decay 3 in the form of a trailer. And the news was inadvertently leaked by developer Undead Labs itself.

That’s not to say any one person at Undead Labs blabbed. Instead, it was a website blunder that led to this revelation. As reported by Gematsu, a link on Undead Labs’ jobs page apparently linked to a press kit, talking about the developer’s recent brand overhaul.

The press kit talks about how they got design agency 51 Eggs to design a new logo and so on, though it doesn’t specify how much they spent. But the end of the press release reads: “Undead Labs revealed its new brand during the highly anticipated Xbox Showcase presentation on June 9th, in the newest State of Decay 3 trailer.”

The page has since been pulled, but it seemingly confirms that tonight’s Xbox Games Showcase will feature a new State of Decay 3 trailer. We were big fans of the previous entries in this open-world zombie series, so we’re eager to get a glimpse of this sequel.

But there’s a catch. Mention of a trailer doesn’t mean we’re necessarily getting to see the game in action. It could be a pre-rendered trailer, as was the case with the 2020 announcement trailer. Given the other studios Microsoft has shuttered, devs at Undead Labs, which is owned by the company, might be getting a little nervous, feeling the pressure to deliver a smash.

You can tune into the Xbox Games Showcase at 5pm BST/12pm ET. And if you’ve yet to play either of the two previous games, they’re both heavily discounted on Xbox.
