Sumerian Six, out now on Steam, pits you against a WWII Nazi empire that’s armed itself with a strange, semi-supernatural substance. So you’re not just taking on German soldiers, you’re battling bad guys with Geistoff-powered miniguns, teleportation technology and more. But if that sounds daunting, don’t worry, our guide has seven tips to get you started with Sumerian Six.

This being a stealth game, albeit one viewed from a top-down perspective, you can’t just rush in, guns blazing. You’ll have to think things through, because just a bullet or three can put an end to your own hi-tech heroes. Our Sumerian Six guide covers staying alive while foiling the Germans’ plans.

How to stay out of sight

It’s important that you not be seen in Sumerian Six, especially since you’re controlling multiple characters. You need to hide both your characters, not just the one you’re using. On our first few attempts we died several times because we’d left one character out in the open.

So, to stay out of sight in Sumerian Six, there are a few things you can do:

  • Hide in bushes. As in Assassin’s Creed and other games, you can’t been seen in bushes unless someone goes in looking for you.
  • Hide in buildings. There are several buildings where you enter one door and go out the other, but you can also enter these buildings and just stay until the coast is clear.
  • Use Vision Mode. Vision mode will let you see an enemy’s cone of vision, and tag them so you’ll continue to see it when you exit vision mode. However, this only shows that enemy, not all foes as in Metal Gear Solid.
  • Crouch walk. It’s slower, but there are so many waist-height obstacles in Sumerian Six that you’ll have plenty of cover. But be warned, standing up is an easy way to get spotted.
  • Move or dissolve bodies. If you’re playing as Rosa, you can also dissolve the bodies of enemies other players have killed.

How to cause accidents in Sumerian Six

Make sure you make use of each level environmental ‘accident’ triggers. For example, you might be able to electrocute an enemy by hitting a button elsewhere. But think carefully, you can often kill more than one enemy.

For example, there’s a trap where you can drop a piece of machinery on the person who’s working on it. But it’s better to kill them normally and leave their body there. Then, when the three nearby soldiers come to investigate, drop it on them, dispatching all three at once.

You’ll notice, however, that some characters don’t by default, walk through these danger zones. If you’re ready to take a risk, have one of your characters near the button (or ready to shoot the barrel) and use the other to lure the enemy in. The Action Planner can help with this.

How to use the Action Planner in Sumerian Six

The Action Planner in Sumerian Six is an essential tool for co-ordinating attacks between your characters. However, it’s even more useful than that. Going into Action Planner mode pauses time, letting you take a good look at the battlefield, so us it regularly that way.

To actually use it to co-ordinate an attack, enter Action Planner mode then move a character (either with the joypad or by mouse clicking) and you’ll see them as a semi-transparent silhouette. Take them where you want them to go and then choose an action, whether that’s using a skill or stabbing a soldier.

Now, switch to another character and do the same. You can back if you want but if you’re ready, choose Execute to pull off your action. Both characters will perform their tasks simultaneously. This doesn’t mean they’re invulnerable, they can still be killed while executing that action, so plan carefully. It’s also effective to use Action Planner for just one character’s action.

How to save your game in Sumerian Six

You can save your game in Sumerian Six at any time game by going to the menu and choosing save or load. It also autosaves, which is helpful. But be careful when you save and use multiple slots, don’t just overwrite.

It’s easy to save your game only to realise you’re in a near no-win situation, with guards bearing down on you. We’ve done that a few times. If this happens to you, try going into Action Planner mode and using it to arrange a hasty retreat.

How to defeat the Panzerwolf soldiers

Panzerwolf soldiers, who roam around in Sumerian Six toting miniguns, are the first multi-hit enemies you’ll encounter. They’re a little daunting but you can take care of them in several ways.

Firstly, you can shoot them three times if your character has a gun. That may mean shooting once, running away until the alarm has gone down, and repeating. You can also stun them and them melee kill them with one hit. Also, consider arranging an accident. The first Panzerwolf you encounter walks right past a barrel and if you shoot that it’ll kill them.

How to use your abilities in Sumerian Six

Make sure you check which abilities your character has in Sumerian Six, both regular and special. You might be counting on your characters to climb vines but not everyone in Enigma Squad can do that, which is something the game occasionally uses to pen you in. Our favourite, by far, is Rosa’s bomb ability, but each character has several useful skills, and sometimes a so-so one. We’ve not got much use out of Rosa’s disperse ability, for example.

To use them, select the ability from the bottom of the screen on the keyboard or with a joypad have the ability selected and hold the left trigger to aim it. Depending on the ability you’ll be presented with one or more circles.

The circles vary by ability but generally the red zone is the target/effect area. You’ll be able to move the target area with your mouse or joypad and, if the smaller circle is within the dotted circle (a valid target is sometimes needed), your character will deploy that ability.

That sounds straightforward but there’s a catch. If the target is outside the dotted zone, your character will start walking towards the target zone, potentially putting them in sight of enemies. It’s safer to move them yourself and only use the ability when you’re out of sight.

How to lock the camera onto a character

You’ll want to know how to keep the camera focused on your character in Sumerian Six and, on keyboard, it’s fairly straightforward. Just select a character and press C and the camera will lock onto them. To unlock the camera either click on another of your characters or use the arrow keys to move the camera manually.

With a controller, it’s trickier to do. Press down on the d-pad to lock the camera, but the moment you nudge the right stick it’ll unlock. So the trick is to press down and keep your hands away from the right stick, resisting the temptation to rest your thumb on it.
