Pilgrims walkthrough: Full completion guide

If you’re playing Pilgrims, you’re in for a fun time. This short but sweet game is about experimentation, messing around with options and having fun. It’s incredibly simple: a little like a point and click adventure, but instead of directly interacting with objects, you’ll do so by collecting cards. It can be a little tricky to know what to do, however, and that’s where we hope our Pilgrims walkthrough will help you out.

There’s a few things to note before using our Pilgrims walkthrough, though. This is not a full achievement guide. We’ve provided a path to completion, where you’ll unlock roughly half the achievements along the way. More can be unlocked by playing again and trying out different things. There are some key goals in the game, and multiple ways to complete them. Our guide lays out the key events that need to happen. Below that, you’ll find every step we took — but you should feel free to experiment with your own ideas, too.

Pilgrims walkthrough: Key chain of events

Several things need to happen in order for you to complete Pilgrims. Here’s what they are:

Recruit the Bandit — you’ll find him in the clearing in the forest.
Recruit the Old Woman — she’s near the bridge.
Recruit the Devil — he’s in the crater.
You’ll need a pot, a fishing rod, a broom and, eventually, a sword.
Get the Old Woman’s house back from the witch.
Capture the priest as the devil.
Defeat the dragon and win the princess as the Bandit.
Capture the bird and give it to the woman in the boat. This is the very last thing you’ll do.

There are multiple ways to complete most of the steps. Capturing the bird is an automatic process that happens after completing the main goals as the Old Woman, the Devil and the Bandit.

There are lots of other things to play around with, too, that are not essential, but are good fun, and we’d recommend experimenting as much as possible.

Key item locations

There are several items in Pilgrims that you can use multiple times to achieve different tasks. Here’s where to find each of those items:

Worm: Outside the castle
Mushroom: By the second campfire
Water: Use the pot on the lake
Weeds: From the witch’s cottage (the house with the brown roof at the bottom of the screen)

We’ve annotated a map with each of the place names you can visit. These are the names that we’ve used in our guide — not necessarily the official names of each place. But it will help you out if you’re not sure where to go next.

Pilgrims step-by-step walkthrough: How to complete the game

Click on the card, then the birds and the tent.
Go to the map and to the Clearing.
Click the card to bring your character into the scene.
Click the man, and the acorn.
Go to the map and to the Campfire.
Click the pot.

Key event complete: You’ve got the pot in your inventory. You’ll need to use this to make various soups and stews on the campfire.

Go to the map, then the Garden. Pick up the hoe and then use it.
Back to the map and go to the Dock.
Click the card to place your character in the scene. Use the pot to fill it with water.
Return to the Campfire. Use the pot then the acorn and the seeds. Take the seeds and the pot.
Go to the Clearing. Give the man the pot.
More map is now revealed. Go to the brown roofed house at the bottom of the screen — the Witch’s Cottage. Pick up the weeds.
Go to the Castle. Take the worm.
Go to the Lake. Use the pot.
Go to the Bridge. Use the coin.

You’ve recruited the Old Woman.

Go to the second Campfire. Take the mushroom. Use the pot with the weeds.
Go to the Cave. Select the man. Use the pot with the green goo in. You’ve now got a diamond.
Go to the Cactus. Select the woman. Use the worm and the rope. When the man’s happiness is full, give him the coin.
Go to the Lake. Select the man. Use the fishing rod and the worm to get a fish. Use the pot to fill it with water.
Go to the Campfire. Select the man. Use the fish to grill it.
Go to the Red-roofed house. Select the man. Use the fish.
Go to the Clearing. Select the man. Use the bottle. Use the acorn.

The Bandit is now in your party.

Go to the Crater. Select the original man and use the fishing rod on the hole.
Give the rope to the Devil.

You’ve now recruited the Devil.

Go to the Witch’s cottage and select the woman. Use the mushroom.
Pick up the broom and more weeds.
Ensure you’ve got water in your pot (go to the Lake if you need it – using it will replace whatever is in it) and go to the Campfire to heat it up.
Return to the Witch’s house. Choose the woman. Use the broom. When flames appear in the witch’s eyes, use the pot of water.

You’ve got the Old Woman’s house back. You should have had your first encounter with the bird.

Return to the Lake to get more water. Heat it on the campfire and add the weeds to it.
Go to the Church. Select the man. Give the priest the pot.
Select the Devil. Use the broom, then use the rope.
Go to the Crater. Select the devil.

You’ve captured the priest as the Devil. You should have had your second encounter with the bird.

Go to the Lake. Select the man. Use the acorn. Use the pot to get some water.
Go to the Castle. Select the Bandit.
Give the king the jewel.
Go to the Cactus. Choose the man. Use the bag of coins.

You’ve now got a sword.

Go to Campfire 2. Pick up a mushroom. Use the pot and put the mushroom in it. Pick up the pot.
Go to the Dragon cave. Select the Bandit. Use the sword. Use the broom, then use the broom again to wedge it in the dragon’s mouth. Use the mushroom stew.
Use the Sword.
Go to the Castle. Select the Bandit.

Key event complete: You’ve slayed the dragon and won the princess as the Bandit. You should have also had your third and final encounter with the bird, ensuring it’s now in your inventory.

Go to the boat. Select the man and use the bird.
