Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes is a story-driven roguelite launching early next year

If you’re a Battlestar Galactica fan, you’ve got something new to look forward to early next year as Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes has just been announced at Gamescom’s Opening Night Live. Currently in development by indie studio Alt Shift and set to be published by Dotemu, it’s going to offer a story-driven roguelite experience, where players need to make important choices in order to avoid being annihilated by Cylons.
Jump into Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes and you’ll find yourself in command of a fleet of spaceships. You’re not going to have fun, taking it easy while exploring space, however. Fleeing humanity’s settled worlds, the Twelve Colonies, you’ll be constantly fighting for survival, trying to make it to the safety of Battlestar Galactica while being pursued by Cylons, a sentient robot species which has turned against its human creators.
Each run in Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes consists of a number of sectors, and in each you’ll have to manage your fleet of spaceships along with its supplies and key personnel. A number of activities can be performed, each requiring a certain combination of resources as well as time. And so, you’ll need to manage your resources effectively if you want to survive: when your time is up, the Cylons will attack and you’ll have to defend yourself in battle.

Your time in Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes is split between gathering resources, developing your fleet and personnel however you can, and fending off Cylon attacks until you can escape by jumping to a new destination. Along the way, you’ll have to deal with other issues and crises, too. It might be that a ship in your fleet has a damaged hull, for example, and you need to decide if you can spare the resources to fix it. Or it might be reported that a meteor is passing close to your fleet, causing havoc with various systems. How do you deal with that?
Being a roguelite, Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes is designed to be challenging, so chances are you aren’t going to survive on your first try, or maybe even your second or third. Over time, however, things should get a little more manageable, and with multiple fleets to unlock as well as each run having plenty of randomised elements, it should be fun diving in time and time again, especially if you’re already a Battlestar Galactica fan.
There’s no firm release date for Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes just yet, but it’s set to launch sometime early next year on PC. Be sure to keep it on your radar if you’re into Battlestar Galactica or space-based roguelites. If you like both, then there’s a good chance you’re going to love it.
