Catto’s Post Office review

26 minutes. That’s how long it took me to fully complete Catto’s Post Office, an unbearably cute game about a cat delivery person (delivery cat?). It’s woefully short, then, but costing roughly the price of a creamy Starbucks treat, it provides just as much joy as a Frapuccino possibly could — and none of the calories.

Catto’s Post Office begins with the titular Catto waking up, ready to begin work. Catto’s bedroom is directly attached to the post office they work for, which seems rather unfortunate. But they don’t seem to mind. What they do mind about, though, is the fact that today is their birthday. And nobody seems to remember. Poor Catto.

Still, Catto decides not to let it bother them, instead going about their business. That means delivering a small handful of parcels to businesses around town: the nursing home, the café, the grocery store, the florist. This is a very small town, so nothing is more than a few seconds away. There are a few characters to speak to as you walk around, too, and a few side quests to complete.

It may be very basic and without any sort of challenge whatsoever, but Catto’s Post Office still manages to be joyful. You can interact with several objects as you explore: whether you’re kicking a football into a net or kicking cans across the pavement, you’ll have a smile on your face. Moreso when you realise you can knock over plant pots, just because, like the true naughty kitty that you are.

Once you’ve finished Catto’s jobs for the day, you’ll retire to bed for a little nap — waking up to an ominous note to deliver something to the town hall. You can probably figure out what happens next, but it’s a great way to end this 20-odd minutes of heartwarming cosiness.

Because it’s so short, it’s hard to whole-heartedly recommend Catto’s Post Office. It’s barely a game; feeling more like a demo. But it is wonderfully cute, and there are certainly much worse things you can spend £4.20 on. It really would have benefitted from being longer, though, and a bit more challenge wouldn’t go amiss.
