The Exit 8 walkthrough – Complete guide to all anomalies (including the new movie update)

The Exit 8 is a great game in its own right, but now it’s become a movie (yes, really), we anticipate even more people flocking to this anomaly game. That’s where our The Exit 8 walkthrough and anomaly guide comes in, taking you through the game hazard by hazard.
Like most anomaly games, The Exit 8 requires a keen eye but it’s still easy to miss some of this game’s oddities. And, at the other end of the spectrum, there are some that charge right at you, murder in their eyes. We’ve covered both in our The Exit 8 walkthrough and anomaly guide, so read on and you’ll get through this game in one piece.
How to play The Exit 8

The Exit 8 sees your nameless protagonist trapped in a looping subway passage. Each ‘loop’ may contain an anomaly, something strange or out of place, or it may be anomaly-free. If there are no anomalies, you keep going, and – assuming you’re correct – the number on the yellow sign will go up.
If, on the other hand, you see an anomaly, you turn around and walk backwards through the passage. Again, if you’re correct, the number will go up. The catch is that if you either miss an anomaly or turn back when there isn’t one, you’ll have to start from loop 0. There are also dangerous anomalies, and if you’re caught by any of those, you’ll also be sent back to loop 0.
Once you’ve cleared loop 8, you can go up the stairs and leave the subway, but to get the proper ending you need to find all anomalies. After escaping once, there will be a new notice on a wall telling you how many anomalies you have left to find.
There’s no one best way to beat the game; you can search the passage in any order. We would, however, recommend you first look at the tunnel’s other inhabitant, who we’ll call Briefcase Man. One of the anomalies has him running right at you, so if you see him moving faster than usual, turn around right away.
Other than that, use our The Exit 8 anomaly guide to track down those anomalies you might have missed, and you’ll be free in no time. There’s also one anomaly you’ll only find in the VR version of The Exit 8, and we’ve included that as well.
All anomalies in The Exit 8
There are 36 anomalies in the updated version of Exit 8, plus an additional anomaly in the VR version. The update, timed to coincide with the movie’s release, added five new anomalies. At the time of writing, the Steam version has been updated and you can expect other platforms to follow shortly.
We’ve listed all anomalies below, grouped into appropriate categories, and flagged which are new. You can encounter these anomalies in any order, though once you’ve correctly spotted one, you won’t encounter it again until you start a new run or delete your save data.
If an anomaly says DANGER in brackets, it means that if you get too close, or it gets you, you’ll be sent back to loop 0. So beat a hasty retreat as soon as you encounter any of those.
