DEATH ON THE NILE KEY ART
Image: Microids

Are you jumping into Agatha Christie: Death on the Nile? You’re in for a treat. Based on Christie’s famous novel, this video game adaptation remains faithful to the source material in some regards, but adds its own twists and new story beats. Filled with adventure and puzzles, we had a great time with it, and we’re sure you will too. But some of its puzzles can be a little tricky, so if you get stuck, we hope our Agatha Christie: Death on the Nile walkthrough will come in handy.

Our walkthrough tells you exactly where to go and what to interact with, as well as providing specific puzzle solutions and combinations within the mind map. What we haven’t included is the information required to fill in the character profiles — these aren’t necessary for completing the game, but you can of course add this information in yourself if you want.

Use the table of contents below to jump to the chapter of Death on the Nile you need help with, or simply follow through from the beginning: it’s up to you!

This walkthrough is a work in progress and currently covers the prologue and up to the end of chapter four. The rest will be added in the coming days.

Prologue: Chez ma Tante

  • Go to Mr Blondin near the bar and start a conversation with him.
  • After the cutscene, talk to Charles Windlesham. Ask him about the ring.

Open the mind map.

Select ‘The ring was no longer in its box when Gaston Blondin took it out of the safe’ and link with ‘The ring was stored in Gaston Blondin’s safe‘.  Select deduction: ‘The ring was stolen from Gaston Blondin’s safe’.

  • Talk to Harry, the barman. Ask him about the ring and the proposal.
  • Go through the door behind Harry, then go through another door into an office. Examine the photo frame and document on the desk, and the magazine on the side table.
  • Look at the clock on the desk. Interact with it, then interact with the top of it.

How to solve the clock puzzle in the prologue of Agatha Christie: Death on the Nile

In the prologue of Agatha Christie: Death on the Nile, you’ll find a strange clock on the desk in Blondin’s office of the night club. Interact with it, and you’ll see that you can rotate two rings of symbols. The rings overlap and form Roman numerals. You cannot make an entire clock face, but instead you need to make the correct numbers on each hand.

Look at the clock face again.

  • The hand with the hole is at 3 (III)
  • The plain hand is at 7 (VII)
  • The ornate hand is at 11 (XI).

Rotate the lower ring until two straight lines are lined up with the hand with the hole. Switch to the upper ring and rotate until you have three straight lines visible.  Doing this, the rest of the numbers should be in the right place.

Take the golden moustache.

  • Examine the door, then go through the door. Go back out to the club.
  • Talk to Charles and ask him about the proposal.
  • Talk to Blondin – he’s sat at the bar in a blue shirt. Ask him about the ring and the proposal.
  • Go up the stairs and when prompted, begin eavesdropping. Move around until the sound waves line up.
  • Talk to Joanna Southwood (the dark-haired woman). Ask her about the ring and the proposal. Talk to Linnet Ridgeway (the blonde woman). After the cutscene ask her about the ring and the proposal.

Open up the Mind Map.

Select ‘The fourth suspect’. Choose Emmy Dunnes.

Select ‘Gaston Blondin is the only one with the safe’s code’ and connect to ‘Gaston Blondin isn’t the thief’. Choose ‘The thief figured out the code on their own’.

  • Go back to Poirot. Go downstairs.
  • Talk to Emmy Dunnes. She’s at the bar, wearing a pink dress. Ask her about the ring and the proposal.
  • Ask the barman about the ring. Confrontation: choose ‘but I didn’t leave the bar all evening’. Then choose ‘The barman brought a bottle to Linnet Ridgeway’.
  • Eavesdrop on the woman on the dancefloor pointed out by Emma – she’s wearing a checkered dress and white boots.  You’ll need to go up the stairs behind her to find the sweet listening spot.
Agatha Christie: Death on the Nile screenshot
You’ll need to climb the stairs to eavesdrop on this woman from behind. Screenshot: GameSpew/Copyright: Microids
  • Go back to Blondin’s office. Interact with the safe. Input the code 1957 (it’s on the back of a photo on his desk).

Go to the Mind Map.

Choose ‘The thief left bundles of cash in Gaston Blondin’s safe’ and pair with ‘The ring was stolen from Gaston Blondin’s safe’. Then select ‘The motive is not money’.

Now select ‘The motive for the theft’. Choose ‘prevent the proposal’. Next, choose Linnet and Joanna.

  • We just have one more bit of evidence to collect: Talk to the woman we eavesdropped on on the dancefloor. She’s Jacqueline de Bellefort. Ask about the ring and the proposal.

Agatha Christie: Death on the Nile prologue timeline

You’ve now got all the information for solving this particular mystery. Open up your mind map and select The stolen ring. You can now piece together a timeline of events, using L1 and R1 to select a time and place characters in the correct location.

Here’s where everyone should be at each time:

  • 10.43: Jacqueline at the bar, Joanna on the dancefloor.
  • 10.45: Jacqueline talks to the DJ, Joanna enters the store room.
  • 10.47: Jacqueline enters the store room,  Joanna opens the safe.
  • 10.49: Joanna steals the ring, Jacqueline takes a record.
  • 10.51:  Joanna closes the safe, Jacqueline leaves the store room.
  • 10.53:  Joanna returns to the party, Jacqueline gives a record to the DJ.
  • Once you’re back in control of Poirot, go and talk to Joanna Southwood (she’s upstairs).
  • Return the ring to Charles – he’s at the bar.
  • You’re now in control of Jane. Leave the nightclub via the door up the small stairs and follow the corridor around.

How to solve the luggage puzzle in Chapter 1 of Agatha Christie: Death on the Nile

To fit all luggage in the boot, you’ll haev to rotate and place them correctly. Leave the two large green cases where they are. Stack two of the thin, tall blue cases on top of each other on one side, and at the other side, lay them side by side. You can then put three of the burgundy cases stood up between the blue cases, and lay two on top of the flat blue cases.

Essentially, you’re looking for the layout below:

  • Go all the way down to the bottom of the steps to reach Vikram’s room. Interact with the door to pick the lock.

How to pick a lock in Agatha Christie: Death on the Nile

Picking a lock is an interactive minigame in Agatha Christie: Death on the Nile. Basically, you need to move left to right along each node of the lock, and each time you do, the spring will move up one place. You cannot pass through a node once its spring is in the correct location, because it’ll get pushed out of it. Therefore, you’ll need to think carefully about whether you move left or right. Plan your route and you should be able to solve the lock puzzle easily enough. You can keep retrying, so don’t worry too much if you go wrong.

  • Go inside and pick the suitcase lock. Examine the note and take the cassette.
  • Examine both bedside cabinets. In the right hand side,  examine the pills and the earplugs in the top drawer.
  • Look in the wardrobe and the bathroom. As you go to leave the main door, Vikram will enter. Hide in the egg chair.
  • When he’s in the bathroom search his jacket and retrieve a phone number. Leave the room.
  • Make your way up the stairs. Eavesdrop on the two women sat on a table.  You’ll need to go up a level and stand by the pool too listen.

  • Move on to the older woman sat next to her. You’ll need to play another game – this time, it’s a Mahjong style game. You need to remove pairs of tiles to get to the highlighted bird tiles in less than 12 moves.
  • Once you’ve completed three puzzles, go through the dialogue options.
  • Next, move on to the third table and speak to the man sitting there. This time, it’s a dice game: you can rotate any two adjacent dice to get the highest score. Aim for sixes!
  • After three games, go through all the dialogue options.
  • Next, talk to the man behind the bar. Follow the white ball and guess what cup it is under. You won’t be able to win: he cheats. Go through the motions of three games, then go through the dialogue options with him.
  • Leave the den and, after going up the steps leading back to the alley, go through the door on your left. You’ll need to lockpick a second door to get out. Interact with the back of a lorry once you’re out here. You’ll need to pick the lock, but you’ll be interrupted before you finish.

  • When prompted, choose ‘The Spider’. It’s now your choice to report Changming to the police, or let him go.
  • You can now go and lockpick the back of the lorry. You’ll now need to complete a block puzzle so you can reach the middle of the crates at the back of the lorry.
  • Open up the box and examine the grenades, the rifles, and the delivery note.
  • Go around to the front of the truck and lockpick the cab door. Look inside the glove box and examine the gun and the map. Look at the bottle on the floor. Examine the visor and the photograph tucked inside.
  • Go back to the gambling den (through the door to the right of the back of the lorry). Talk to the man behind the bar. Choose ‘On the other hand, nobody cheats here. I personally make sure of that’. Then choose ‘Marcus cheats at the shell game’.
  • You’ll need to track the ball under the cup again.
  • Go outside and look at the graffiti on the wall just across from the steps. From there, look at the bird on the wall to the right. Note the small image that appears next to the bird – a heart with a bone through it. This is the next graffiti you’re looking for. Follow the trail, and you’ll eventually end up outside a door. You’re looking for an apartment building door with a cat next to it. Go up two flights of stairs and knock on the door next to the monkey graffiti.

Open your mind map.

Select ‘The secret code for the graffiti door’. Click the first, third, fourth, sixth and eighth boxes. (The clue was in another graffiti around the area).

  • Return to Marcus – he’s behind the bar in the gambling den. Talk to him. Ask him about trafficking in the neighbourhood.

Open up your mind map.

Choose ‘On the trail of The Spider’.

  • Match ‘Photo of Ryan in front of a bar in Egypt’ with ‘The Spider has left for Cairo’.
  • Then match ‘The Spire traffics weapons’ and ‘Behind AWL is the organisation The Spire’.
  • Next, match ‘A transaction will take place in two days at the bar The Golden Scarab’ with ‘Photo of Ryan in front of a bar in Egypt’.
  • Finally, match ‘A transaction will take place in two days at the bar The Golden Scarab’ with ‘The Spire traffics weapons’.
