Captured walkthrough – Full anomaly and monster guide

Anomaly game Captured takes place in a house where the windows and lights have mysteriously disappeared. And if that wasn’t unsettling enough, the hallway loops around and around and monsters haunt its rooms. Your only hope of escape is to correctly identify all Captured’s anomalies, which is where our anomaly and monster guide comes in.
We’ve roamed Captured’s haunted house, jumping out of our skins every time a monster appeared and casting a watchful eye over each and every object. We do mean watchful, too – it’s easy to miss some of this game’s sneakier anomalies. So read on and, with our Captured walkthrough, we’ll hold your hand through this harrowing game.
Captured walkthrough: How to play
To play and beat Captured, you need to correctly identify anomalies as you explore the rooms that make up your house. Anomalies can be missing objects, other unexpected changes to a room or even a room disappearing. Anomalies can appear in any room, hallway included.
Once you’ve spotted an anomaly, you need to scan it (R1 then X on controller) and correctly mark the anomaly type (electronic, water etc.). When you’ve found them all, go through the living room door. If you’re right, you’ll be onto the next loop with your anomaly count intact. If you’re wrong, the anomaly counter resets.
Your flashlight, which you can turn on and off, won’t run out of power. However, scanning an object takes a chunk out of your camera’s energy meter so keep an eye out for batteries to replenish your meter. Higher difficulty levels introduce a sanity meter that ticks down. If you lose all your sanity it’s game over.
Your objective is to reach the required anomaly target (13, 20 and 26 depending, on the difficulty level) and then exit the loop one last time. The Demon (a figure made of shadow) will pursue you but they’re typically so slow you can easily reach the exit.
All monsters in Captured and how to beat them
Before we guide you through Captured’s anomalies, you need to know how to deal with its monsters. There are no monsters in Safe Mode, three on Normal Mode and four on Hard, Nightmare and Insanity. They can appear inside rooms or in the hallway, and the game will always alert you to their initial presence. You can have an anomaly and a monster inside the same room.
The good news is that we’ve never had two monsters in one loop, so once you’ve had a monster encounter, you should be safe for the remainder of that loop. The bad news is that you can’t pause your game while an enemy’s nearby. Hearing footsteps does not mean there’s a monster about to appear, it’s just one of the ways the game keeps you on edge.
You will encounter monsters if you’re playing in any other mode than Safe Mode. It doesn’t matter how quiet you think you’re being, they’ll still turn up repeatedly. Here is how to deal with each monster.
Hornhead

Turn away as soon as the voice tells you to, and Hornhead will disappear after a short while. You don’t even have to move to another room, you’ll hear a second set of footsteps and it’ll be gone. Looking straight down at the ground without turning tends not to work.
Mr. Blue

The sometimes-invisible Mr. Blue is a bigger threat than Hornhead. As soon as you hear the voice say “Run!”, race to the nearest room, and slam the door behind you. When you hear it run off and your flashlight stops flickering, exit the room and it’ll be gone. If you’re in the kitchen when he appears, shutting just the door between you and him seems to work, I’ve never had him come through the other, open door.
Dr. Spiders

Dr. Spiders, literally a giant spider, only appears on Hard level and above, but it’s barely more dangerous than Hornhead. The moment it appears run, shutting your flashlight off, and get into a dark corner or other dark area.
It’ll ignore you, and may even clip through you before despawning. When you can’t hear it any more, you’re good to put your flashlight back on. You may see its footprints as it leaves, it won’t turn around and come back. But be warned, you need to put some distance between you, just shutting off your flashlight in front of it isn’t enough.
Be warned, you do need to put a little distance between you and this monster. Just slamming the door in its face and shutting your light off isn’t enough. Dr. Spiders can and will open doors.
Carroteras

Carroteras, who you’ll encounter on Normal difficulty upwards, is just the worst. It won’t move while you’ve got your flashlight on it (think Doctor Who’s Weeping Angels) but unlike the other monsters it doesn’t despawn. It’ll hang around, following you, until you enter the next loop.
You can still scan anomalies while it’s still in your field of view, but the best way to deal with it is to lock it up. Lure it into one of the larger rooms, as deep into the room as you can, then close the door as you exit. However, do not turn your back, back away from the door and down the corridor. Why? Because Carroteras can sometimes open the door. It seems there’s a small time window where Carroteras can do this. Once you see the door isn’t opening, you’re good to go.
Carroteras will remain in there for two to three minutes while it tries to open the door. You can then explore the rest of the loop. You’ll hear when it gets loose and it’s a good idea to close the door of the room you’re in too. Rinse and repeat until you find all the anomalies.
Captured walkthrough: All anomalies

There are 99 unique anomalies to find in Captured, though you won’t encounter them all on one run. Playing on Safe Mode, Normal or Hard, there’ll be one to three anomalies. For us, it was mostly two but there were a few occasions when there were three and a couple of times, just one. The same seems to apply to Insanity mode, too. However, in Nightmare mode, you can have up to four.
The voice won’t always tell you if you’ve missed an anomaly, but when it does, it’s always right. You may also catch shadowy figures ducking round a corner, but they’re just there to creep you out. They’re not monsters or anomalies. However, you should check each room as a handful of anomalies only activate when you’re nearby.
So far, we’ve discovered 95% of Captured’s anomalies and will update this guide with the remaining ones. Thanks go to Twitch user Lordacrisplays for spotting the missing Office box anomaly.
To make things easier, we’ve subdivided each room into missing items and other anomalies. You can spot the former because there’s a stain on the wall where the object used to be. We’ve also put the category each anomaly falls into. So, here are all the anomalies we’ve uncovered, room by room.

Where to find batteries in Captured

Our guide to Captured’s anomalies should help you beat this game, but you may also be at risk of running out of batteries. Their placement varies between loops, but whenever there’s a room that turns into another, eg the laundry room becoming a full laundromat, you’ll find batteries in there. Unlike regular rooms, these alternate rooms don’t drain your sanity, so you can spend as long as you like in there.
Here’s where to look for more batteries in Captured.
- Hallway: On the set of drawers with a bull statue
- Small bedroom: On the drawers next to the radio
- Laundry room: On the stand on the right by the door
- Forest (deformed laundry room): On the small table by the armchair, next to the radio
- Laundromat (deformed laundry room): On one of the washers
- Poolrooms (deformed laundry room): On the furthest pool chair
- Bathroom: Between the sinks, on the toilet lid
- Office: On the right-hand corner of the desk, on the bookshelf, on the shelf near the boxes
- Hospital (deformed office): On a small unit at the back of the hospital.
- Main bedroom: On the TV stand, on the drawers by the phone
- Kitchen: On the corner of the kitchen table,
- Dining room: On the dining room table, on the drawers and bookshelf to the left of the room
- Living room: On the drawers to the left of the TV, on the coffee table, on the table beneath the black and white picture.
