Arr, Jim Lad! T’is our Escape Simulator 2 walkthrough and… nah, there’s absolutely no way I’m keeping this up. If you’re a fan of pirates you’ll be happy to see that this escape room game has several levels based around a piratical theme. The first The Cursed Treasure level in Escape Simulator 2 is dubbed ‘Tavern’, and if it has you scratching your head, hopefully our walkthrough will help.

Our guide below will take you right through The Cursed Treasure Tavern level in Escape Simulator 2. So if you’re stuck, let us lend a hand, shipmate, and you’ll be free from this cursed Taver in no time at all.

Lanterns

The note on the bar is your clue to solve the lantern puzzle. You need to turn the numbers on the lantern to the correct combination, then take the key that’s revealed.

  • Going from left to right, the numbers are: 2, 4, 3, 1 (see below)

  • Once you’ve done that, pull the handle under the mermaid.
  • Take the key.
  • Finally, use the key to open the back room door, by the bar.

Battleships

You don’t have an opponent; instead you’ve got to mark every battleship on the board. The gold balls represent part of each ship is, and the box to the left lists all the ships in play.

Click on a ball to turn it from black to gold and back again. You can’t flip the balls surrounded by a square, but those are intended as a clue to show you where part of the ships are.

Here’s the solution:

Now, take the dice you get from solving this puzzle.

Back room chest

You can take the chest to the bar, but it’s simpler to crouch down (CTRL, or Y on your controller) and solve it that way. Your clue is the shapes on the dice you’ve just got.

  • Look at each dice, and find the face with a pin on it (I’m assuming these are meant to be weighted).
  • Count the dots on each marked face.
  • Put the number into the lock corresponding to each dice’s appearance.
  • The combination is: 324

Now, take the key and use it to open the first lock upstairs. You’ve got more work to do before you can pass through, though.

The Drummer

Pick up the Monkey Drummer and, zooming in, wind him up to hear the tune that’ll give you a clue to this next solution.

Now, go to ‘The Drummer’, a machine in the corner of the bar, and place the teeth in the Drummer and on the table to match the Monkey Drummer’s beat. You’ll need to drag some from your inventory. The solution is below:

Now, take the puzzle wheel.

Dominoes

Not unlike the battleships puzzle, your aim is to put the dominoes in the right place. The static squares are your starter clue. If you’ve not played dominoes before, the way it works is that the end of a domino has to match with an identical number or, in this case, an identical shape. E.g. dominoes need to be placed fish to fish and so on.

You have to place all the dominoes, and don’t forget you can rotate them with A and D. Here’s the solution:

Take the puzzle wheel and move onto the next puzzle.

Open the bar door

Could you climb over the bar door? Probably, yes, but where’s the fun in that? Instead, you’ll want to solve its compass puzzle. You’ll need to collect two more puzzle wheels from around the bar. You’ll find the remaining two:

  • On the bar, by where you found the note
  • In a chest under the big map

Now you’ve got to place the puzzle wheels on the dials and rotate them until they make the points of a compass (N,S,E,W). Here’s where they go:

  • The wiggly S goes, unsurprisingly, at the bottom, for south
  • The one that looks like an inverted F, goes at the right, making an E for east
  • The single, straight(ish) piece goes at the top to make an N
  • The remaining piece goes at the left, making a W.

Below is how the puzzle should look when completed. If you’re having trouble, make sure you’re rotating the dials manually, which gives you more precision.

Open the chest below the bar

You’re closer to opening the door at the side of the tavern, but you need more keys. Unlocking the chest beneath the bar will bring you one step closer. Here’s how to do that:

  • Grab the green gem from below the bar
  • Grab the purple gem off the windowsill
  • Put them into the recesses below the big map
  • Find the horned whale (the name of bar) on the map and note the co-ordinates (GC24)
  • Go back to the bar and unlock the chest with GC24 as the combination.
  • Take the three seals and the medallion from the chest.

Label the barrels

There are four barrels and four unlabelled barrels found around the bar. You’ll also find a piece of paper labelled “Drink mixtures and effects”. Grab the two measuring mugs off the bar and by experimenting and referring to the sheet for the effects, you’ll be able to figure out which is which. Then, apply the correct label to each.

The solution, from left to right, is: Mead, Juice, Grog and Beer.

Serve the pirate

Now you’ve got the barrels labelled, serving the pirate isn’t too hard. He wants a bubbling mixture, a double shot of grog, and a mixture of mead and beer. So, take a measuring mug and serve him up the following:

  • Half from the mead barrel and half from the juice barrel (the first and second barrels)
  • A mug filled from the grog barrel (the third barrel)
  • Half from the mead barrel (first barrel) and half from the beer barrel (last barrel)

You’ll have to place the mug in his hand, or at least next to it, rather than just flinging it at him. Once he’s stated, he’ll give you a key, so go and use that to open the second lock on the door at the side of the tavern.

Identify the pirates and unlock the chest

There are four pirate portraits around the bar, and you need to identify their name and their nickname, eg, Rat the Menace. You’ll find clues scattered around the whole bar, such as a statue of Ricky, Rat’s pistol, and other items. If you’re finding this tricky, look below for the answer.

  • Pirate with a sword and pistol – John the Rat
  • Hook-handed pirate – Ricky the Worthy
  • Pirate holding a drink – Jack the Snake
  • Pirate with treasure – Henry the Menace

Make a note of the symbols between their name and nickname, and now go to the chest beneath the noticeboard. Use the same information you’ve learnt to identify their positions on the map (each has a green glowing symbol). Then, use those positions and the symbols to unlock the chest beneath the noticeboard. The solution is:

  • Top left: crossed spaces
  • Top right: coins
  • Bottom left: cannon
  • Bottom right: goblet

Take the key and use it on the third lock. You’ll have to rotate it a few times to get it to go in.

The final key

The final key is found behind the puzzle on the bottom right-hand side of the bar. You’ll need all three seals from the chest and the medallion. You don’t insert the medallion, but it will show you the pattern to make with the device at the top. Here’s what to do:

  • Insert the anchor seal on the right
  • Insert the star-shaped seal on the left
  • Put the ring seal in the hole on the top

The moving device will take on the pattern of whatever seal it passes over, so your aim is to create the pattern on the medallion. The diagram below shows how to do this. We haven’t included the mini-symbols but they’ll change as you go until you’ve created the pattern on the medallion.

Finally, use the key you get on the final lock and you’ve escaped the room!
