How to make money in Anno 117: Pax Romana

Anno 117: Pax Romana has you building your own Roman city, but the catch is that if you plunge into the red, the Emperor could give you the boot. So just how do you ensure your Roman or Romano-Celtic city stays profitable? We’ll tell you how to make money in Anno 117: Pax Romana.
Before we delve into the how, though, we have one major tip. Do not let the game lead you. Since service and manufacturing buildings cost money to maintain, your income will take a serious dip if you build them the moment they unlock. Only construct them when you need them and can afford the maintenance cost.
The easiest way to make money in Anno 117: Pax Romana is to build houses. Unlike some games, building a house doesn’t cost you any money, it costs resources such as wood. Each occupied house produces income so the more houses you have, the better.
To make your houses even more profitable, meet the needs of the inhabitants, whether that’s food, entertainment, clothes or so on. When a need is met, it boosts the house’s income. Upgrading the house to the next level, eg libertus to plebeian, also increases its income and, by meeting the new needs, you can rack up even more cash.

You can make your houses even more profitable by constructing buildings that have an area effect on income. For example, having a market nearby raises a house’s income by 1. But it also costs 10 coins to maintain, so if it’s not boosting at least 10 homes, you’re losing money.
Trading is another valuable source of income. From your trading post, you can choose to sell excess goods, or all of your goods. We set it to sell any resource that went over 25 units. Even without setting up trading routes, and provided you’re not at war with everyone, ships should dock and buy your goods.
Finally, keep an eye on what each facility is costing you and shut it down if it’s pushing your income into the literal red. And that’s how to make money in Anno 117: Pax Romana.
