How to settle and claim new islands in Anno 117: Pax Romana

Anno 117: Pax Romana takes place in a large island archipelago, and while you’ll start your city on one island, you may find yourself wanting to expand. Maybe you’re running out of space or perhaps you want the resources another island offers. We’ve got you covered with our guide on to how to settle and claim new islands in Anno 117: Pax Romana.
You can take islands from enemies but, starting out in Anno 117, you’ll just want to settle new islands. Whether you’re playing sandbox or campaign mode, the method is the same.
- Take a ship (any ship)
- Sail/row the seas until you find an unsettled island
- Sail your boat up to a beach area
- You’ll see the outline of a trading post appear
- Select the trading post and you’ll be told how much it’ll cost to build it (typically thousands) and how much you’ll pay per minute as land tariffs.
- Agree, and the trading post will be built.
- This will give you control of the island and let you build further structures.
If you’re told that you haven’t progressed far enough in the story, if you’re playing in campaign mode, forget about settling for now and try again later. Secondly, it’s a good idea to load your ship up with useful resources, such as wood. While it doesn’t cost you any physical resources to build a trading post, houses and so one do use resources, such as wood.
Also, put a little thought into which islands you settle. Different islands have different resources, so if you’re looking to harvest olive oil and your current island has low fertility, choose an island where, on the mini-map, it shows that resource as plentiful. And that’s how to settle and claim new islands in Anno 117.
