How to upgrade buildings in Anno 117: Pax Romana

In Anno 117: Pax Romana, your city lives or dies on its inhabitants. The more people you have living there, the more money you make. But what if you want to take things to the next level? We’ve got you covered with our guide on how to upgrade buildings in Anno 117.
Before we tell you how to upgrade buildings in Anno 117, there are a couple of things to bear in mind. Firstly, you upgrade each building individually. Also, when you upgrade a building, you upgrade the residents – e.g. you lose that house’s libertus workers and gain some plebeian workers.
Firstly, you need to make sure you’ve met that building’s needs, all bars. For example, for a wader residence, you need food, public service and fashion at 1.0. You can check these by selecting the house.
That 1.0 can be from one item or multiple items. For example, food can be 1.0 cockles, or 0.5 cockles and 0.5 eels. As the horizontal bars fill, the curved bar next to the large up arrow will slowly fill up. When it’s full (it can be an arrow or an arrow and a symbol), click/select the arrow and you’ll upgrade.

In Albion, you’ll have the option of upgrading to a Roman or Celtic house. Choose Celtic, for example, and you’ll be upgraded from Wader to Smith. You can also use the down arrow to downgrade the dwelling. Why would you do this? Because you might find yourself with not enough waders or libertus workers to run your manufacturing buildings.
The snag is that higher tier residences have more needs. For example, while Waders have three need bars, Smiths have several more. You may have to construct new buildings to meet those additional needs which, in turn, will make a bigger dent in your finances.
And that’s how to upgrade buildings in Anno 117.
