From Half-Life to Mortal Kombat, we’re addicted to Floor 796’s reverse Where’s Wally
Move over Wally (or Waldo if you’re in the USA), we’ve found a new character-spotting obsession in the form of the mind-blowing Floor 796. This gorgeous, pixel tableau is filled with fictional characters, and we’ve been poring over it for hours, ticking off every game character we find.
Floor 796 is described as “…an animated scene showing the lives of characters from various works on the 796th floor of a huge space station.” It’s the work of just one creator, the Belarus-based 0x00, and while it’s still only half-complete, it’s packed with characters and gags.
It’s also absolutely massive, to the point where, as you scroll around the floor, you’ll spot something new. Like a reverse Where’s Wally, it’s a real rush to spot a new character, especially if it’s one you weren’t expecting.
For example, we weren’t surprised to see Mortal Kombat’s Sub-Zero hanging out in Floor 796’s refrigerated zone, but we did do a double take on seeing Doom 2’s Pain Elemental on janitorial duty. And, on top of the game characters, there are many, many other individuals from film, TV and literature.
The site is frequently updated, too, so new characters arrive on a regular basis. Castlevania’s Alucard and Simon Belmont now lurk in the floor’s vampire hunting section, getting a little whip practice in. You can follow these updates on the official Floor 796 Twitter/X account here.
