Ten tips to help you conquer Resident Evil Requiem

The latest entry in the Resident Evil series is here, and it’s absolutely brilliant. With its dual-protagonist setup, Resident Evil Requiem caters to both fans who love its true survival horror roots, and its more recent foray into action horror. Even better, it allows players to be in control of fan-favourite Leon Kennedy yet another time, returning to Raccoon City to deal with some unfinished business.

Tips for Grace

Collect and analyse the blood samples

As you make your way through the Care Center in Resident Evil Requiem playing as Grace, keep an eye out for any blood samples you can pick up. If you take these and then use them with the blood analyser found in the east wing, you’ll be able to craft new items including med injectors and steroids that will enable to you increase your max health.

Exploit zombie behaviour

Unlike in past Resident Evil games where zombies were mostly pretty brainless, in Resident Evil Requiem some of them still cling to certain behaviours they had before they became the undead. The good news is that you can exploit these. Some are sensitive to light and will make their way to the nearest light switch if you turn the lights on, for example, while others might investigate the noise created by throwing a bottle or destroying a crate. Use these behaviours to your advantage as much as you can in order to aid your stealth efforts and avoid combat.

Seek out Antique Coins

While in the Care Center in Resident Evil Requiem, collect as many Antique Coins as you can get your hands on. Many are just laying around in random places, while some can be found in safes. These Antique Coins can be used in the Parlor on the ground floor in the west wing, where multiple items can be purchased with them.

Collect hip pouches

One of the most challenging things about playing as Grace in Resident Evil Requiem is that she has very limited inventory space. Thankfully, you can increase the amount of items she can carry. Simply look out for hip pouches as you explore: each one collected will add two inventory slots. The first one you can obtain is in the Parlor in the Care Center, though you’ll need to exchange some Antique Coins for it.

Use Hemolytic injectors on troublesome enemies

Once you have the Blood Collector and have found some blood samples, you’ll be able to craft something called a Hemolytic Injector. These aren’t cheap, but it’s worth carrying one or two any any time as they effectively allow you to instantly kill any zombie if you manage to sneak up on them. This is useful as it prevents them from coming back to life, potentially as a powerful Blister Head. You can use them on enemies you’ve previously taken down by other methods, too, and while it’s usually best to just avoid them, certain pursuer enemies can be taken down with multiple Hemolytic Injectors if you can spare them.

Upgrade green herbs to med injectors

You’ll find many, many green herbs as you make your way through the game playing as Grace, and using one restores a small amount of health. Using a bit of blood, however, you can turn one green herb into a Med Injector via crafting which restores full health when used, so it’s definitely a good idea to convert as many of them as you can.

Always carry a knife

Unlike Leon, who can kick zombies when they’re stunned and hack them with an axe when they grab him, Grace is pretty much defenceless by default. For that reason, it’s a good idea to always carry a knife, which can either be scavenged, or crafted using two pieces of scrap. With a knife in your possession, you’ll be able to use it to defend yourself should a zombie grab you, though it may be forfeit when doing so. More useful is the fact that you can freely swing the knife by pressing the right trigger, helping to keep zombies at bay when they get too close. Just watch out, as your knife will break eventually.

Tips for Leon

Use your axe to make short work of Blister heads

Blister heads are one of the most fearsome enemies you encounter in Resident Evil Requiem, being fast, aggressive, and unpredictable. Thanks to Leon’s trusty axe, however, you don’t have to fear them too much. If you manage a to stun a Blister Head or bring it to its knees, you can often quickly move in for a quick kill with your axe, with Leon using it to burst their head and put them down for good.

Save frequently

Like in any survival horror game, death can come quickly in Resident Evil Requiem, so don’t be afraid to save at any opportunity you get. This is perhaps more troublesome when playing on harder difficulties, though, as you need Ink Ribbons to manually save on Classic difficulty upwards.

Aim for the legs

As anyone familiar with the Resident Evil games, or zombie media in general, will know, aiming for the head is typically the best way to out a zombie down for good. In Requiem, however, it often pays to aim for legs instead. When playing as Grace, aiming at a zombie’s legs will quickly bring it down, allowing you to run past while conserving some ammo. Alternatively, you can run up and put some bullets in their head while they’re down, but you risk them coming back to life later on. As Leon, once a zombie is down, you can often finish them off with your axe, which is always beneficial.
