How do you like the sound of an adventure game all about helping rats find their way back home? A Rat’s Quest – The Way Back Home is the game for you, then, and season one has just landed on Steam right now.
Yes, you read that right: currently, only season one is available, with a second season planned to launch later this year. It’s not quite to the scale of an episodic Telltale Game, with season one tying up its own adventure, but the second, concluding season, will expand the story, introduce new environments, and draw a close to the entire adventure.
In A Rat’s Quest – The Way Back Home, you’ll take control of Mat, a young rat who lives in an abandoned wine cellar. He’s happy enough, but when he meets (and falls in love with) Nat, a pet mouse who lives in an apartment upstairs, he suddenly wants more from life. He wants Nat. And so begins his journey to not only get to Nat, but to start a new life together somewhere new.
It that doesn’t sound adorable, then I don’t know what to tell you. As Mat, you’ll climb, jump, crawl and sneak through various environments, avoiding dangers and navigating oversized environments. There are fights to engage in, and some environmental puzzles to solve, making this a varied and appealing adventure.
