Find My Frogs review – A gorgeous and relaxing hidden object game

After releasing on PC last year, the gorgeous hidden object game Find My Frogs has made its way to console, launching across PlayStation, Xbox and Switch this week. And for fans of the Hidden Cats in… series along with other hidden object games, it’s an absolute must play. From its soothing soundtrack to its beautiful art style, Find My Frogs might not take very long to complete but it’s a joy while it lasts.

Find My Frogs presents you with one large scene; a tree by a lake, where many frogs have taken up residence. Frogs are soaking up the sun, swimming in the lake, making themselves at home in nooks and crannies in the tree, and a whole lot more. It’s your job to hunt down all the frogs: starting as monochrome outlines, they’re often obscured by other objects or otherwise disguised, making them tricky to spot. There are more than 200 frogs altogether, and they aren’t all you’ll be hunting down here.

It may be called Find My Frogs, but you’ll also be searching for gnomes, random objects, insects and camera parts, so there’s plenty to keep you occupied. The vast majority of these will be easy to spot, and a counter of each item type in the top-left corner of your screen will let you keep track of how many more you have to find. It’s only when you get down to the last few that you’ll likely to struggle, and for those, you’ll be glad to know there’s a built-in hint system. With an automatic cooldown, you can use it as many times as you like, which is a real lifesaver.

From the main scene, there are several smaller scenes in Find My Frogs, each accessed by clicking on a door. These indoor areas show homes and workspaces of the frogs, and each one has its own unique counter for frogs, gnomes and items to find. Handily, there’s a main menu that can be accessed to track every indoor scene, so you can make sure you’ve not missed anything.

It’ll likely take you around an hour to find everything, and there’s very little reason to go back to Find My Frogs, unless you want to find everything again. But costing around the price of a coffee, it’s an absolute bargain considering how beautifully presented this game is. The scene you’re presented with is gorgeous, calming and colourful, and scouring its details to the sound of its soothing soundtrack is a fantastic way to while away a bit of time.
