Captured 2 walkthrough – Anomaly and monster guide

Captured 2 is, as the title suggests, the follow-up to Captured and while it shakes things up significantly, at its core it’s still about finding anomalies and avoiding monsters. That’s why, to keep you safe from giant telephone toys and other entities, we’ve put together this Captured 2 walkthrough.

Our Captured 2 walkthrough lists the anomalies you’ll have to spot (some are easy to miss) alongside the best way to tackle the monsters who’ll periodically spawn in to hassle you. So read on as we guide you through this unsettling, suburban nightmare.

How to play Captured 2

You’re trapped in a looping version of your house. Various rooms are accessible through the doors but at the end of the hallway there’s a door which sends you back to the beginning of the hallway. If you spot an anomaly, something strange or changed, you have to scan it.

You do this by zooming in with the right mouse button, left clicking on the anomaly, and selecting the correct category. If you think you’ve spotted them all, go through the far door in the living room. If you’re right, the anomaly counter in the bottom left of the screen will flash green.

Keep going until you’ve filled the anomaly counter’s target, e.g. six anomalies. Once you exit the living room door, you’ll advance to the next day. There are three days in all and you can select the days from the main menu as you unlock them.

However, if you miss or mislabel an anomaly, or get killed by a monster, you’ll have to start that day all over again. The tricky bit is that you don’t know how many anomalies are in a loop; it could be as little as one, so keep your eyes open and use our guide to help you check each room.

All monsters in Captured 2 and how to beat them

There are four main monsters that can kill you (when your flashlight stops flickering you’re safe). Here’s how to deal with each of these foes.

Ring-a-Ding

This terrifying giant toy telephone is surprisingly easy to deal with. As soon as you hear it, duck into a side-room or even the closet in the hallway. If you stay in the hallway it’ll get you, but it won’t follow you into the rooms.

Walk-E

Captured 2

Walk-E is the primary reason the game asks you to check your microphone levels. It reacts to noise, both microphone noise and the noise of your in-game footsteps. As soon as you see it, crouch (Left CTRL) and it’ll stop following you.

If you think you’ve got all the anomalies, sneak round it if you can and go to the exit. If you haven’t checked all the rooms or can’t get past it, go into one of the larger rooms, such as the office or master bedroom. Now, stand up and walk back and forth till it enters.

Crouch, sneak around it, and shut the door, and stay crouched while you hunt for any remaining anomalies. We haven’t seen it escape a room it’s been shut in, but it’s safest just to stay quiet.

Carroteras

Captured 2

Returning from the first game, Carroteras is a Weeping Angel-style character. They freeze when you shine your flashlight on them, but turn away and they’ll race towards you. The best way to deal with them is to lure them into a larger room and, keeping your light on them, move around and shut the door.

They will break out after a couple of minutes or so, but that should give you enough time to search for any other anomalies and you can also lock them in another room after that.

Jestie

Jestie is fast and can copy herself, so your only option if you see it is to put some distance between you. Ideally, put a little distance between you, dash into a room, slamming the door if you can, and hide. Turning your flashlight off isn’t compulsory but I always do it anyway.

Captured 2 walkthrough: Anomalies

We’ve rounded up 89 of the game’s 100 anomalies so far, the ones you’ll encounter during Story, Normal Mode or Hard modes. The last 10 anomalies can only be found when you’re playing in Insanity or Nightmare mode, and we’ll update this guide as we find them.

It’s important that you check every room as a few anomalies only trigger when you’re close by, such as the firetruck in the small bedroom. Some of the “deformed room” anomalies will lock you in the first time you encounter them, so you’ve got to follow the path offered, eg wander all the way through the Backrooms. However, on subsequent runs this shouldn’t happen.

Also, bear in mind that the rooms are slightly different on each of the three days which, due to the time difference, are different years. For example, on Day 2 there a tent in the corner of the small bedroom, and on Day 3 there’s an easel.

Here, then, are all the anomalies we’ve uncovered, along with the categories to select:
