If you love retro games, there’s a good chance you’ve got an Evercade device or at least have heard of the brand. It’s been around for over six years now, with a steady stream of cartridges being released over the years, each featuring an assortment of retro games from a specific publisher. There’s been the occasional collection of modern, retro-inspired indie games, too. More importantly, they’ve always been bargain priced, coming in at £19.99/$24.99 or less. Though that’s about to change.

It’s been announced that, from this month, the price of Evercade Cartridges will be increased across UK and Europe due to economic factors; namely the ever-increasing costs of memory and storage. In the UK, Evercade cartridges will now cost £24.99, up from £19.99, while in Europe they’ll cost €29.99, up from €24.99. Those in the USA escape the price hike, with the price remaining at $29.99.

It’s not just Evercade cartridges that are getting a price increase in UK and Europe, either. One of Evercade’s devices is also getting a price hike this July: the Super Pocket. This handheld device, available in numerous colours, each with a selection of built-in games, was previously available for £49.99 in the UK and €59.99 in Europe. Now it will be priced at £59.99 and €69.99 respectively, with the price in the USA once again being unchanged.

Thankfully, other Evercade devices, such as the VS-R console, EXP-R handheld and Alpha bartop, are remaining at their current prices. The upcoming Nexus handheld is unaffected as well.

Price increases are always painful, but even with its cartridges being more expensive, the Evercade platform remains very attractive for retro fans. An actual case containing a cartridge with a collection of titles on it that you can use on multiple devices for around £20 has long felt like a bargain. Providing that there aren’t any more price increases in the near future, it’s hard to be too bitter about it.

It’s worth noting that these price increases haven’t come into effect with all retailers yet, so if you’re after a particular Evercade cartridge or Super Pocket device, it might be worth getting a purchase in quick.
