Project Zomboid gets a massive update next week and there’s a brand new trailer to celebrate

Project Zomboid, easily the most in-depth zombie game out there, is getting a massive update next week. And, to mark its impending arrival, developer The Indie Stone has dropped a new trailer, easily the most professional we’ve seen since the game’s 2013 launch.
The game has been in Steam Early Access for 13 years, and there’s no 1.0 release in sight. But, clearly a labour of love, it’s received myriad updates, to the point where it folds in nearly every aspect of a zombie apocalypse.
Project Zomboid’s 42.20 update adds in a wealth of new features, most notably animal husbandry. Why is that a big deal? Because, if you play your cards right, it offers the chance to become even more self-sufficient.
Granted, you’ll have to track down the animals yourself, following their tracks. But it’s preferable to breaking into a building to discover the previous owners are very much still in residence. The existing farming system will also get a boost, with new crops and new ways of farming your land.
Farming aside, the map is getting even bigger, there’ll be new clothing items and new vehicle liveries, and you’ll now be able to explore skyscrapers. I’m especially excited about this feature; one of the first things I do in zombie games is tracking down a high building. Yes, if the dead get up there I’ve got nowhere to go, but I need my sky fortress, dammit!
You can watch Project Zomboid’s new trailer above; a mash-up of TV broadcast and survivor diary, which underlines that you’re not going to make it out of the game alive. Unlike, say, Dead Island 2, there is no path to victory. It’s just a question of how many days it is before you join the horde.
Project Zomboid’s next update arrives this July 29th, and the game itself is available on Steam and GOG, priced at £16.76. If you’ve the slightest interest in zombies, I can’t emphasise enough just how much you need to play this game.
