Have you ever been playing a fantasy game and, wandering in some cozy inn, wondered what it’d be like to be behind the bar? What if, instead of slicing up monsters, you were serving beer to boastful warriors? Coming to PC, Dungeons & Dragons: Long Rest Tavern is set to scratch that tavern-tending itch.

Running your inn from a god’s eye view, you’ll be ensuring that your clientele, weary adventurers included, leave happy, drunk or both. That entails not only expanding your establishment but also creating an appropriate menu, sourcing ingredients and even sending heroes out across the land to secure ingredients and treasures.

The latter feature might sound like it stands to dilute Long Rest’s tavern management action, but you won’t suddenly find yourself wrenched away from the bar to battle monsters. Instead, success is down to luck, skill and a dice roll or two. You’ll remain happily ensconced within the titular public house.

True, it’s not the only tavern sim out there; Tavern Manager Simulator springs to mind for one, but it’s the Dungeons & Dragons connection that has me grinning, and not just because it means D&D beasties such as Beholders get a look in.

As you may have spotted from the above trailer’s thumbnail, the game will, in some respect, feature Minsc and Boo, a hero and hamster duo from the Baldur’s Gate series, last seen in Baldur’s Gate 3. I’ve got my fingers crossed that it doesn’t end there, that and that Karlach, Astarion, Shadowheart and pals all stop by the Long Rest. Heck, if they don’t, I’d happily pay for DLC that brings them to the tavern’s door.

Long Rest Tavern’s Steam page certainly hints at some unexpected guests, stating that “Some faces you’ll recognize. Others you’ll want to learn more about. Every legend who walks through your door carries a story waiting to unfold.” At the very least, it suggests you won’t always be dealing with the generic patrons you get in many a management sim.

Developed by Homo Ludens and published by Dotemu, the game is pencilled in for a 2027 release date. In the meantime, you can wishlist Dungeons & Dragons: Long Rest Tavern on Steam.
