Coming this Halloween, Mimic is Among Us meets The Thing

With shades of Among Us and The Thing, online survival horror game Mimic is heading to Steam Early Access this October and I can’t wait. After all, who wouldn’t want to masquerade as a shapeshifting alien entity and slaughter their crewmates?

Mimic will support up to ten players, the bulk of whom want to get off the space station safely, and with their faces intact. Matters are further complicated by the fact there are two players trying to ensure your mission ends in bloodshed and failure.

There’s the Mimic, as you’d expect, but what’s especially intriguing is that there’s also a corporate stooge (think Burke from Aliens) trying to protect the Mimic. We doubt the Mimic will appreciate your efforts, so the suggestion is you’ll have to foil the other players’ efforts without putting yourself in the firing line.

The trailer, which you can watch above, delves into the horror that awaits you. Taking a leaf out of Alien Isolation’s book, the station is not in the best condition. You do have ‘help’ in the shape of an android which will take on the Mimic, but given that you can point the finger at the wrong person, that may not be the blessing it sounds like.

As much as I enjoyed The Dark Pictures: Directive 8020, I was mildly disappointed that it didn’t lean more into the paranoia of knowing there was an alien impostor among you. So I’ve got my fingers crossed that Mimic will deliver on that front.
