Moonlighter is currently free to keep on Steam
There’s a treat for all you PC gamers today: to celebrate the announcement of Moonlighter 2’s version 1.0 release date, the first Moonlighter is completely free on Steam. And it’s not just a free trial window either: if you claim it today, it’ll be permanently added to your library. So what are you waiting for?
Released in 2018, Moonlighter is a clever blend of roguelike action with management sim elements. Taking control of a young adventurer called Will, you’ll spend your days running a small shop selling various trinkets. By night, you’ll be exploring dangerous dungeons in order to collect those trinkets to sell.
It’s a busy life being Will, then, but the balance of these two game elements makes Moonlighter a wonderful and unique experience. Even if you don’t get very far in a dungeon run, you’ll likely gather at least a few items to sell, and the money you earn in your store can be spent on upgrading your equipment, becoming stronger, and therefore more capable of getting further each night.
It’s a wonderful gameplay loop that will undoubtedly get you in its grasp and refuse to let go. When we wrote about Moonlighter back in 2018, we called it “nothing short of wonderful”, praising its “cathartic and enchanting loop of killing enemies, finding loot, and selling it on”.
