Climbing adventure Cairn is getting free DLC next month

Mountain climbing adventure-sim Cairn really took me by surprise when it launched this January. Frustrating and compelling in equal measure, no other game has hooked me in quite the same way and, eight months later, I still find myself thinking about climbing that digital mountain quite often. Soon, there’s going to be a reason to return to it, with a free DLC launching on 29th October.
Called On the Trail – Deep Water, it’s sort-of a prequel to the main events of Cairn, taking players to the climbing spots where Aava and Marco trained for their time climbing Kami. There are three new locations in total, each one having its own unique problems to overcome.
You’ll be able to make your way around a technical and challenging climbing gym, puzzle over a tropical piton in the middle of the ocean, and make your way around a rugged island overhanging the sea.
Furthermore, players will be able to take control of Marco for the first time, offering a unique experience and challenge. He’s not as flexible or experienced as Aava, but he’s stronger, with a bigger reach, and a newer, more capable climbot model.
Playing as him will offer a unique experience to those who have previously beat Kami, and thanks to a new Free Roam mode, you can return to take on the challenge again. You can explore every path Kami has to offer either as Aava and Marco, making it a great opportunity to try out new routes and explore any hidden secrets you might have missed.
Sound good? All of this is completely free, and will be available to anyone who owns Cairn from 29th October. Check out a trailer for On the Trail – Deep Water below.
