Between the Lego Atari 2600 and Lego Sega Mega Drive, Lego has added the PlayStation to its growing line up of console and computer-based sets. As of October you’ll be able to buy a brick-based replica of Sony’s original PlayStation console, since dubbed the PlayStation 1.

The 1,911-piece Lego set is pricier than the Lego Sega Mega Drive set, costing £139.99 / €159.99 / $179.99. But it’s a great deal larger and, at 26 cm by 19 cm by 6 cm, is virtually the same size as a real PlayStation.

It also nails the look of Sony’s groundbreaking console, coming complete with actual functional buttons. You read that right, Lego has confirmed that this Lego PlayStation’s buttons work and while there aren’t any audio features, you can bet that some modder will figure out how to add in the iconic PlayStation boot-up sound.

What this Lego PlayStation does have is a pair of dioramas which can be concealed inside the console. There’s a Gran Turismo mini-set and an Ape Escape one though, as some have pointed out, the single-stick Lego controller that comes with the console wouldn’t play Ape Escape, you’d need a DualShock controller. That nitpick aside, it’s pretty cool being able to press the power button and see these dioramas just sitting there.

We tip our hats to Lego for making it life-size, or as near as they could. If you grew up with a PlayStation, or burning with envy that your friend had one and you didn’t, it should be well worth adding to your collection. And, while it’s not officially been announced, it appears that there’ll be a Gift With Purchase Astro Bot figure too.

This Lego PlayStation set will be available from October 4th but Lego Insiders can get it from October 1st.
