Marvel’s Wolverine’s latest update lets you disable some scent trails

The scent trails in Marvel’s Wolverine have caused something of a stir, some seeing them as next-level yellow paint. Now, after dimming them and promising they’d explore toggleable options, developer Insomniac has patched in the ability to disable some of this PS5 game’s scent trails.

However, if you were looking to say goodbye to them completely, you’re out of luck. Marvel’s Wolverine’s latest PS5 update (spotted by Push Square) will let you toggle scent trails and other indicators for collectibles, so you’ll have to hunt them down by sight or sound alone.

As detailed in the latest Marvel’s Wolverine patch notes, you can independently toggle off “Whisky Bottle scent trails, Material Crate audio clues and Nightmare Door roots”. “Story-critical Senses will still appear in the world,” the notes add, suggesting that Insomniac is going to leave those as is.

On reflection, it’s a sensible compromise. Much of the scent trail criticism related to how easy it was to spot collectibles with scent trails enabled. Though, if the game does ever come to PC, as Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man games did, you can bet someone will mod out all scent trails the day the game releases.

Scent trails aside, the update (1.001.006) fixes several potential crash issues, a claw issue that could pop up in photo mode and fixes an “…overlapping bathroom sign in the casino caused by a UV mapping issue”. The latter led to accusations that the game had made use of generative AI, which Insomniac denied.

The game is out now on PlayStation 5. If you’re wondering whether it’s worth popping your claws for, check out our Marvel’s Wolverine review.
