Minecraft is getting even bigger, with Dungeons 2’s The Sift dimension joining the main game next year

It’s been nearly fifteen years since Minecraft got a new realm but fans can rejoice as The Sift, a whole new dimension is being added to this blocky sandbox survival game. You can count on new mobs, new materials and, when Mattel, Lego and pals catch up, new merchandise.
The Sift is described as “..beautiful, vibrant, and teeming with souls”, though from the screenshot Mojang has shared, it looks to me like it’s been powerwashed with blended Smurfs. It was created for Minecraft Dungeons 2 and will appear in the hack-and-slash sequel, which releases this month.
Next year, however,The Sift will arrive in Minecraft Java & Bedrock Edition next year (thanks, GamesRadar). There is also the possibility it’ll turn up in a beta release, as was the case with elements of The End, the last new dimension added to Minecraft.
Minecraft has never fallen out of favour, and has racked up an astounding 425 million copies sold across all formats, as tweeted by Xbox CEO Asha Sharma (Microsoft currently owns Minecraft developer Mojang). But The Sift is sure to have players, new and old, flocking to the game.
Minecraft is also heading to Nintendo Switch 2 this October 27th. As for Minecraft Dungeons 2, it releases this October 29th on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch and Switch 2.
