Onimusha is back, which is definitely a cause for celebration. And Capcom has a reason to celebrate, too, as it’s been revealed that the new entry in the hack-and-slash series has already sold over one mission copies. That’s not bad at all for an IP that’s been dormant for a large number of years outside of remasters.

The news was revealed by a press release on the official Capcom website, and what’s more impressive is that the title reached over 1 million copies sold on launch day, so it’s likely sold quite a lot more than that by now, three days later. We just hope it means that Capcom won’t make us wait so long for the next instalment. Without spoiling anything, it certainly seems like some aspects of the game’s story were left unresolved for a follow-up.

In our review of Onimusha: Way of the Sword, we stated that “once all of its system are in play, it becomes pretty enthralling.” The game’s boss fights are its strongest aspect, being challenging but ever-so-rewarding to beat. So, while it might not make the best first impression, give it some time and you’ll likely end up loving it.

It seems like Capcom is keen on reviving yet more of its dormant IPs, too, with the press release on the Capcom website also stating that “Capcom is focusing on re-activating IPs that haven’t had a new title launch recently.” So, does that mean we might actually get a new Dino Crisis? Or perhaps even a new Final Fight game? We can only hope.
