Star Wars: Republic Commando’s Delta Squad live on as a Zero Company mod

Star Wars: Republic Commando is back, and we’re not talking about Aspyr’s remaster. Thanks to one enterprising modder, you can now play as Delta Squad in Star Wars Zero Company, dressing your characters as Boss, Fixer, Scorch and Sev (on PC, at least).

It’s the work of NadaYukie, a creator who’s made several mods for the PC version of this turn-based strategy game. The character creator is pretty comprehensive, but this mod, dubbed Accurate Clone Commando – Delta Squad, adds in the coloured clone commando armour seen in Star Wars: Republic Commando.

There are no Republic Commando voice lines, but we wouldn’t be surprised if NadaYukie or another modder figured out how to add in voice lines from the original 2005 Star Wars: Republic Commando. For now, though, it’s as close as we’re going to get to a Star Wars: Republic Commando sequel. Thanks to YouTuber RemusGT, you can watch the mod in action below.

If you haven’t played Star Wars: Republic Commando you might not get why it was a big deal, but the game painted clones as something other than nameless, disposable warriors. This was three years before the Clone Wars series delved deeper into the pre-Revenge of the Sith conflict.

There were also several Republic Commando books and, while they didn’t focus on Delta Squad, they offered an even greater degree of insight into the lives of the clones. Unfortunately, the series ended prematurely and the next game, Star Wars: Imperial Commando was also cancelled.

You can download the Delta Squad mod here. And, while the mod is only available for PC, Star Wars: Zero Company is available on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
