You can now play the original Diablo in-browser

Is work getting in the way of your Diablo 4 fun? Thanks to one enterprising programmer, you can now play the original Diablo in-browser, just the thing for when the work day starts to drag.
Granted, there’s the risk of getting fired, but if you’re a hardcore Diablo fan, you might decide it’s worth the risk. Dubbed Diabloweb, this tool is based on DevilutionX, another project that makes Diablo playable on modern systems.
So if you’re after a quick Diablo fix, you can hop over to Diabloweb and get playing. You can even save your game. And we’re happy to report that the game ran well on all the PCs we tried, including an aging laptop.

However, there is a catch. The version you can play right away is the shareware version of the game, with just a chunk of the game and one character. If you want to play the full Diablo, you’ll have to download a file from the original version of Diablo. That means digging out your original disc or purchasing it from GOG.
But once you’ve done that and put the DIABDAT.MPQ file on your USB stick, you can load it up and get playing. It may not be as pretty as Diablo 4, but it’s certainly cheaper than buying a Steam Deck. Just make sure that, when you’re beating the Butcher, you keep an eye out for your real-life boss.
