Just ahead of Gamescom, Bandai Namco has an announcement that should get JRPG fans excited: Tales of Xillia is getting the remaster treatment. Even better, there’s not too long to wait for it, as Tales of Xillia Remastered will launch 31st October on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch and PC – just over two months away.

Released exclusively on the PS3 way back in 2013 in the west, Tales of Xillia stands out because it allows players to choose between two protagonists: Jude Mathis, a young medical student, and Milla Maxwell, the Lord of Spirits. Both become fugitives after discovering that the kingdom of Rashugal has a dangerous secret weapon, and must put their differences aside in order to fight for peace.

Set in the world of Rieze Maxia, Tales of Xillia doesn’t stray far from the formula the series is known for outside of its choice of protagonist, however. You’ll still be exploring fields, talking to NPCs and watching comedic skits, for example. And you’ll also still be getting into plenty of fights, which play out in real time with you taking control of one party member and another three being controlled by the CPU.

Like Tales of Graces and Tales of Symphonia, Tales of Xillia was very well received upon its launch, with it achieving a metascore of 78 thanks to critics on Metacritic. This remaster will be the first time the game is available on new platforms, and as you’d expect it features enhanced visuals as well as numerous quality of life improvements such as auto-save. All of the game’s previously released DLC will be included as well. Check out the announcement trailer below.
