Want to have your brain scrambled, but in a good way? The Remake of the End of the Greatest RPG of All Time has landed on Steam and, despite its name, it’s more of a puzzler than a JRPG.

This mind-bending game is the “…last hour of a lost 90s JRPG complete with original manual, director’s commentary, and clips of an unreleased amateur documentary.” Except that game didn’t exist, and it’s entirely the work of Coin Drop Games and co-developers.

Your task, on top of solving the puzzles, is to unpack what happened to this remake. We dabbled in the demo in October 25, when we noted that you shouldn’t expect a happy ending. However, the game was delayed from its Q1 2026 release to add additional ending content, so maybe it does all end in hugs. You’ll have to play it to find out.

JRPG battles and detective work aside, the game also throws in FMV sequences, hinting that the would-be developers were in over their heads. The Remake of the End of the Greatest RPG of All Time (the real one, not the in-game one) actually began life as a Kickstarter project, but fared better than its fictional equivalent; so far the game’s reviews are sitting at Very Positive.

The Remake of the End of the Greatest RPG of All Time is out now on Steam, priced at £14.39 including a 10% launch discount.
