Not only is Friday a day to celebrate the oncoming weekend, get a takeaway and go out for a couple of bevvies with your friends and family, for us here at GameSpew it’s time for #FreeGameFriday. That’s right Spewers; it’s the best day of the week.
This week I’m bringing another pixelated wonder before you, one that I’m surprised I haven’t actually noticed before considering my utter love of the art-style and genre. If you guys haven’t played Gods Will Be Watching now’s the time to do it. This game is so simple yet incredibly hard since terrible things can happen at the drop of a hat.
Like the works of Scriptwelder, Spooky Doorway, The Game Kitchen, and so many others, the simplistic design of Deconstructeam’s Gods Will Be Watching is perfect. Stranded on a godforsaken planet for 40 days Sgt. Burden and his team of four plus one robot and one dog have to survive through bitter cold, starvation, and insanity, all the while trying to avoid the dreadful Medusea virus.
That doesn’t sound particularly hard until you realise that you only have a certain number of actions per day to use. You have to talk to the crew, repair the radio (which takes 15+ days), stoke the fire, prepare medicine and hunt for food. Plus, if you want to give everyone a life-saving motivational talk it takes up all of your actions for the day. Fun! What you also find out in that first play through is that when people start dying and disappearing, your number of actions goes down as well.
Gods Will Be Watching, you devious creature. RIP sanity.
So if you’ve got an hour to spare, click the link below and get going. There’s no need to download, just load up and play. Let us know how you get on in the comments or on Twitter by using #FreeGameFriday, we always love to hear your views, and I’ll speak to you next week, folks.
