If you’ve ever wanted to see a hot pink Astra GTC jump through a fiery ring while hurtling through the air at 145 miles per hour, then Forza Horizon 3‘s Hot Wheels expansion is for you.
The Hot Wheels DLC, available as part of the expansion pass or as an individual purchase, adds a completely new area to the already massive map of Forza Horizon 3. The Hot Wheels tracks occupy a series of individual islands off the coast of mainland Australia, which plays host to the rest of the game. A launch point on the main map will transport you to the new area, where you’ll be thrown into a world of boost pads, loop-the-loops and giant animatronic dinosaurs (seriously). The Hot Wheels expansion is balls-to-the-wall mental, and it’s all the more fun for it.
The DLC includes a host of Hot Wheels cars for use in the events, but you can also use any of your existing cars too. Seeing a 4×4 truck or a standard family SUV speeding around loops and corkscrews on a plastic orange track is a sight to behold, but it’s incredibly good fun.
We’ve captured video footage of a couple of Hot Wheels events, just to give you a taste of what you can expect from the expansion:
This is, of course, only the tip of the iceberg. The entirety of the Hot Wheels DLC is set over these orange tracks, life-size versions of the build-it-yourself toys you likely had has a kid. Luscious beaches and detailed city skyscrapers provide an epic backdrop, just as we’ve come to expect from Playground Games’ beautiful Forza Horizon 3, but the mania of looping tracks, literal flaming hoops to jump through, and giant dinosaurs that serve no purpose other than for your sheer entertainment make up the bulk of the expansion.
If you own Forza Horizon 3, the Hot Wheels expansion is a must-buy. It adds an extra layer of fun to the already exhilarating package provided by this brilliant arcade racer (so brilliant, in fact, we gave it a 10/10 in our review from last year). If you want a little flavour of Trackmania Turbo to your Forza experience, then this is for you. Just expect to use fast travel quite a bit because some of those twists and turns are a real bastard to get through in free roam if you don’t have the right car!
