Finally, Blizzard Unveils Diablo IV

Diablo IV

BlizzCon’s opening ceremony has just kicked off, with a eye-melting trailer we’ve all been waiting for: Diablo IV.

Yes, finally: it’s a real thing. BlizzCon 2019 launched with a very impressive cinematic trailer for Diablo IV, and it’s taking the game back to the series’ roots. It’s dark, it’s satanic, it’s gory and gothic: in other words, it looks awesome.

Following the cinematic trailer, we got a brief glimpse of gameplay, and of three of the character classes that will be available in the game at launch: the Barbarian, the Sorceress, and the Druid.

In terms of gameplay, it looks not dissimilar to Diablo III, but the settings and tone of the game will definitely resonate more with those who loved Diablo II. It’s been in development for “some time”, we’re told, and it takes into consideration the full scope of the Diablo series so far; the best bits of all the games. The tone and darkness of the first games; the fluid and visceral combat of the third.

Sadly, there’s been no mention of a release date just yet, but watch this space. There’s more news to come from BlizzCon over the next 48 hours, with Diablo IV-centric panels taking place, going into more details. And if you happen to be at BlizzCon this weekend, you can play a demo of the game on the show floor, you lucky hellhounds.

It’s also been confirmed that Diablo IV is in development for PC, Xbox One and PS4, suggesting the game will launch concurrently on all three platforms.

We’ll have more from the game as it’s announced. For now, feast your eyes on the cinematic trailer and gameplay trailer below.

She'll give just about anything a go, but she's got a soft spot for story-driven adventures and open world escapades. If she's not gaming, she's probably cooing over pictures of baby animals or watching re-runs of Friends for the 137th time.
