How to Fight Echo of Varshan in Diablo 4

Diablo 4

Originally added as the boss of Diablo 4’s first season, Season of the Malignant, Echo of Varshan is now an optional boss in Diablo 4 that you might want to beat in order to progress your season journey or simply for the loot that he offers. After all, he can drop all of the rings added after Season of the Malignant ended, which offer a range of powerful effects inspired by the most valued Malignant Hearts. But how do you fight Echo of Varshan in Diablo 4?

The first thing to note is that you can only fight Echo of Varshan on World Tiers 3 & 4. If you’re not on World Tier 3 yet, keep on levelling up and growing your character. When you are on World Tier 3 and want to face off against Echo of Varshan, however, you need to head to the Malignant Burrow, which is right next to the Tree of Whispers in the Hawezar region.

Before you can actually take on Echo of Varshan, though, you need a number of key items in order to summon him. On World Tier 3, you need a Gurgling Head, a Trembling Hand and a Blackened Femur in order to summon Echo of Varshan. All can be found by completing Whisper Quests and opening Whisper Caches, or by defeating Grotesque Debtors that often appear after defeating World Bosses, completing Legion Events and more. On World Tier 4, a Malignant Heart is also required, which is also obtained by the same methods.

If, on World Tier 4, you find yourself with multiple Malignant Hearts but are missing one of the other required items, be aware that you can craft them at an Alchemist. All require one Malignant Heart and 15 Veiled Crystals, but a Blackened Femur also requires 4 Coiling Wards, a Trembling Hand requires 4 Baleful Fragments, and a Gurgling Head requires 4 Abstruse Sigils.

Once you have the items required to summon Echo of Varshan, simply head to the Malignant Burrow, venture inside, and after fighting just a small number of enemies you’ll find an altar on which the items need to be placed. Select to summon Echo of Varshan and he’ll appear, beginning the fight. Emerge victorious, and aside from earning valuable loot there’s also a chance you’ll get a Mucus-Slick Egg, which is required to summon the Uber Duriel boss, also known as Echo of Duriel.
