Coming next year, Last Harbor is The Walking Dead meets Raft

Ever since Max Brooks’ World War Z (the book, not the movie), we’ve been craving a game where you could take to the the season to avoid the living dead. Now, Last Harbor, announced as part of Summer Game Fest, is set to scratch that itch.
We’ve long been fascinated with the idea of attempting to escape the undead by hopping on a boat. We say ‘attempting’ because all you need is one zombie aboard a cruise ship and everything goes to hell. Last Harbor doesn’t go that big but it sees you commanding your own mid-sized vessel, as you attempt to escape a zombie apocalypse.
Developed by TinyBuild, you’ll have to juggle crafting, fishing, cooking, and dispatching the undead in a persistant online world. You’ll have to take to shore to collect some of those resources but you can expect the dead to smell you the moment you dock.
Trading is also an option, but if zombie films have taught us anything it’s that your fellow survivors can be a bigger menace than the undead. We have our fingers crossed that there’ll be a single-player offline mode but, so far, Last Harbor is online only.
The trailer, which you can watch above, shows Last Harbor in action, including its shoreside salvaging trips. Having the zombies covered with barnacles is a suitably gruesome touch, putting us in mind of The Last of Us’s gruesome fungal growths.
TinyBuild hasn’t clarified whether PvP is compulsory, but they hae confirmed that pulling the trigger could alert the dead. The prospect of a duel going sideways as zombies descend on the combatants does make us grin.
Last Harbor is set to arrive on PC some time in 2027. In the meantime, you can wishlist it on Steam here.
