How to Add Sockets to Items in Diablo 4

Learn how to add sockets to items in Diablo 4, allowing you to make them more powerful with gems and skulls.
So, you’ve found a great item in Diablo 4 that you plan on using for a fair while until you can find something better. But did you know that you can improve it further? Learn how to add sockets to items in Diablo 4, and then you can insert gems or skulls of various qualities and gain a range of additional benefits.
To add sockets to an item in Diablo 4, you first need to reach level 20. The function to add sockets to items will then become available at the Jeweler. Go talk to a Jeweler – each town generally has one – and navigate to the Add Sockets tab; you’ll then be able to select an item to add sockets to from your inventory.
A single socket can be added to most items, but some items such as two-handed weapons can have two sockets. Only one socket can be added at a time though. Unfortunately, adding a socket to an item doesn’t come cheap: it requires a fair amount of gold, but more notably also requires a Scattered Prism. This is a rare material that is generally obtained by defeating world bosses, though you might also get some from caches handed out by the Tree of Whispers if you’re lucky.
Once you have sockets on an item, you can place gems or skulls into those sockets by selecting them in your inventory, then choosing the item to insert them in. Choose the gems or skulls that will benefit you the most. But don’t worry, you can always visit a Jeweler to unsocket any gems or skulls you’ve socketed to replace them.
